Absolutely disgraceful. We were texted “your table is almost ready” then had to wait for OVER an hour to eat. We waited with 40 other people living the same experience. Not an isolated experience, that’s their modus operandi.
Greedy behavior milking the place to the last possible dollar at the expense of customers.
You cannot pay me enough to come back.

I'll start with the good: the wait staff were friendly and the place looked nice on the inside.
I ordered the duck curry at the waitress' recommendation. The curry had a good flavor and the duck was ok, but the dish didn't feel integrated at all. It was as if I was eating duck and I was eating curry and they just happened to be next to each other. Weirdly, the curry was labeled as a spicy menu item, but might have actually been the least spicy curry I've ever been served at a Thai restaurant. Also one of the tomatoes in the curry had started to spoil.
There was no AC so it was uncomfortably hot, fortunately I was underdressed and by myself but would have been an unpleasant experience for a date or business meeting.
And a very mild note, they didn't offer me a bag to put my leftovers in nor did they help me put my leftovers in the leftover containers. I kind of figured since the food was mediocre and the prices were kind of expensive that at least the service would be good, but I guess not.

Called at ~7p to see if there's a wait since we live about 30m away. They said there's a 15m wait and we couldn't put our name in ahead of time, so we head on over. When we arrive, the wait is 75min, so we'd get seated after they close, and we also saw that several parties had joined the waitlist via yelp.
I typically don't mind a long wait, but I wish they just told us that when we called so we didn't waste our time commuting over. We would have happily come a different day.
Khao Tiew San Francisco is a standout establishment, serving delicious, simple, and authentic local Thai dishes. They truly impress with creative and tasty twists on old favorites, such as their exceptional Khao Soi.
The baseline heat level is mild, which is perfect for most palates, but you can easily customize your spice level by adding the hot powder conveniently available on the table. Highly recommended!

On a cold Wednesday evening in October, I was hoping for a delicious date night spot and Khao Tiew delivered. Though relatively new, this place has received a lot of acclaim for the food and because of that I knew I had to try it out for myself. After joining the waitlist (YOU MUST BE WITHIN 1 MILE TO JOIN), we had about 45 minutes to wait around 6:00. However we blew by that time by hanging out and checking out shops in West Portal, which unfortunately were mostly closed by that time. Anyways, after getting seated inside we decided on the Crab Fried Rice in a Claypot, the Khao Soi, the Duck Breast Red Curry, and the Crispy Papaya Salad. I enjoyed everything a lot. The crab fried rice was rich and had a really nice savory and subtle sweet flavor. The Khao Soi was probably the best I’ve ever had and it honestly did not even need the meat add on. The Duck Breast Red Curry was surprisingly fresh and rich, while the duck was super tender. Finally, the Crispy Papaya Salad was really unique and I've never had a papaya salad in this form. What we ordered was more than enough for 3 people, so I wouldn’t do much more than that. Anyways, I am super glad we came and I will definitely recommend this place as one of the best thai foods I have had in the bay.

We made reservations and still had to wait to be seated. Once seated, the place felt chaotic and loud, with children running around and bad acoustics. Aside from the Khao pad mun nuer and the thai tea, all the other dishes we tried (pad thai bolan vo and khao soi pad haeng) weren't impressive either, so not worth it.

Worst Thai food I’ve had. Horrible tasting food ! Shouldn’t have gone based on stupid TikTok trends.
The food was so bad in taste. I always choose Thai food because you can’t go too wrong with it. But this place managed to serve really bad tasting Thai food!!
We ordered tom kha soup which is my favorite. But it was CURDLED and could see it floating white bits on the top. It tasted curdled and had a weird smell. Couldn’t even touch it after one spoon. Usually authentic Thai places bring the big bowl of soup with a small burner so it stays hot. This place didn’t even have that and it was just cold in few minutes.
The tofu vegetarian rice was okay but the tofu was very rubbery and chewy
The tofu based vegetarian pad see ew was so bad, it wasn’t even tasting Thai. It had some random sauce on it that was weirdly sweet and thick like syrup. Again tofu was so chewy and rubbery.
Literally they couldn’t even get Thai tea right! It was just condensed milk raw!! I was so disappointed
The service was also bad they made us leave while my friend was still eating. We had not even spent 1.5 hours there. They made us leave because others were waiting.
I have had so much better Thai food for much cheaper. The price is not cheap and definitely cannot justify the taste. Horrible
Atmosphere and ambience is cozy. That’s the only pro of this place.
I went here because it was a new spot and trending on tiktok and had to wait over 30 mins in line on a weekday at 5 pm. Not worth the hype at all. Lesson learnt !! Never go based on tiktok recommendations !!

Every time I passed by, I saw the line out the door—and now I totally get it! The food is amazing. Both dishes we tried were absolutely delicious and worth every minute of waiting. The only drawback was that the dining area seemed a bit understaffed, but overall it was still a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

Incredibly hospitable staff, and the food is some of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had in SF.
The khao soi was so flavorful, and the khao pad mun nuer had nice tender beef with really flavorful and crispy rice. The toast dessert was so delicious with many nice flavors and crunchy chewy toast.
I will be coming back many times

Came here with a group about an hour after opening and placed our names on the Yelp waitlist. We did not have to wait too long which was great but the place was packed. I thought the food was okay. We only had one dish I did not like because it tasted burnt. It was the steamed egg with large pieces of shrimp but the inside was burned and seeped throughout the dish. I would also pass on the mango sticky rice given presentation, size, and lack of complexity.

My new favorite place. Amazing pad Thai and kabocha curry, perfectly made. I can't wait to try the other items. But the restaurant is so packed, noisy and busy. Not good for kids.
