Delicious meal.
The octopus was one of the best I’ve had, and everything else was delicious as well but I will definitely remember the donuts for dessert. They were definitely a massive standout and entered my dessert hall of fame. When you bite into them they are gooey like they are filled with some kind of warm cinnamon butter. Huge fan and will be back.

The calamari and sea bass are my favorites, and the small dips and plates are excellent. The interior feels like you're in Greece, not Jackson Square. Service can be inconsistent, especially from the hostesses, but overall, it's a solid meal!

I have eaten here many times over the past 20 years, and have had my wedding dinner here. I informed the front staff, ( after I asked to change my table, since they seated us at the front by the bar) and our waitress, who I also told I had other celebrations here that we were celebrating my husbands birthday. I was so disappointed and annoyed that there was no acknowledgement whatsoever. A candle in one of our ordered desserts would have gone a long way. The service has changed over the years and it is not as attentive and inviting.

She stared down at us and made my boyfriend and I feel unwelcome from the moment we sat down. Her name is Jennifer and wears glasses and a tight lipped smile as if we were bothering her by making our food order. We contemplated requesting to switch server sections but decided not to. All other busboys and runners were so nice that it was a bizarre and jarring experience.
Would not recommend this place for special occasions - should’ve booked elsewhere

Overall, Kokkari is famous and considered one of the best restaurants in SF for good reason. The food and service are excellent, with an emphasis on the food. One thing I did not enjoy though was the seats near the bar area. They couple up tables so that you are literally sitting right next to strangers. This works for some but not all and I'm in the latter camp. I do not enjoy yelling at my wife to be heard over the din of the restaurant and chattering couple next to me, with both parties listening to everything that is said. It really removes the enjoyment for me of the whole experience. Given the price of the admission here I will request a more private table or booth on my next visit and will likely not return if I can't get one. The food though is amazing and I loved everything I tried.
