I was really looking forward to trying this place as an out of towner after hearing so many glowing recommendations from friends who live in the area. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to the hype at all.
We arrived early hoping to get a table, but the hostess at the front desk was incredibly unwelcoming and flat-out told us there were no seats available. Strangely enough, we were later able to call and secure a reservation for that same evening — which left us confused.
When we did finally sit down, the atmosphere was actually really nice — lively and well-decorated — and the table staff were absolutely lovely. They were attentive, kind, and definitely the highlight of the night.
Sadly, the food didn’t meet expectations at all. It was underwhelming and didn’t strike me as authentic Greek cuisine. Given all the rave reviews I’d heard, I left wondering if I’d somehow missed what everyone else seemed to love?!?!
Overall, great service from the waitstaff and a nice vibe, but the food and initial experience at the door left a lot to be desired.
Best restaurant in San Francisco
Wonderful meal and wonderful service. Our waiter was very attentive and kind. Best moussaka I’ve ever had. I wish it had slightly more ground beef in it but the cream top was incredible. The meatball appetizer was so yummy. I also loved the ambiance on a Saturday night. Great for a special mother daughter dinner during our SF trip.
One of the best Greek food I had in the United States. And the restaurant is beautiful, vibes are awesome, this is a must in San Francisco
This place was amazing!! I highly, highly recommend. Everything came out so quickly and was extremely delicious. Our server Stephanie took great care of us :) Everything we had was fantastic, but I especially recommend the grilled octopus and lamb riblet appetisers and the lamb stew and moussaka mains. Perfect place to celebrate a special occasion.
Heard about this place online - slam dunk vibes, food, and service.
Amazing greek restaurant! We had baked feta, zuccini cakes, grilled octopus and chicken souvlaki. It was enough for both of us and would highly recommend it. It was so delicious! Sokolatina cake is amazing for dessert. Great staff. Little bit pricey, but definetly worth the money.
Tasty food but honestly it’s overrated. Great service. Main courses were overpriced. The whole scene was kind of Napa circa 2004.
An incredible meal. Service was amazing, ambiance like you’re back in the old world, and food… come hungry!
The best food I had in San Francisco! The menu combined traditional Greek dishes with more modern interpretations — we ordered a range of tapas and everything was exceptional. From flavourful vegetarian dishes (we loved the asparagus and saganaki) to indulgent lamb, every bite hit the mark.
The restaurant has a beautiful feel — it feels intimate and elevated, but also heralds a traditional Greek taverna. I’d recommend it for a date spot or for a group of friends.
The drinks menu was also fantastic and we enjoyed some excellent wine and a negroni. I will definitely be back!

Is no better Greek restaurant in San Francisco
Great atmosphere and amazing service. Food exceeded expectations. Would recommend leaving space for a couple desserts.
Kokkari never disappoints. Had another fantastic lunch experience with colleagues. Grilled Octopus, Roasted Asparagus, Zucchini Cakes, and Whole Sea Bream...all were exceptional. Looking forward to returning soon.
My sister and I went there. And nothing else needs to be said . It’s trash. The service is sub par and very unprofessional. Pretty embarrassing for restaurant in San Francisco city limits. Be better
Everything on the menu tastes magnificent. Kokkari knows how to cook meat. The rib eye is perfection.
