some hits and misses. the chicken stew is tasty but very rich. The smoked salmon was way too salty. The smokiness is great but they need to dial that salt back. Way back. Eggplant dip is very good. Cucumber salad with mint sauce was a nice counterpoint to the rich sauce in the chicken. Baklava was meh. Casual restaurant with fast service. A bit on the loud side.

Had an amazing dinner here with family to celebrate an early Persian New Year. We quite literally got everything on the menu, and I don't think I could pick a favorite. This food was amazing and beautiful, and I loved how much fish there was. I'm a big fan of smoked fish, and their salmon belly was like bacon! We had been to their previous venue several times, and their new space is beautiful and great for larger groups. The service was also fantastic, and although we didn't do much wine this time, were excited to return and try more from their list.

It's been a long time since I had food from Komaaj and I was so happy to be back. I attended one of the pop-ups many years ago and loved trying Iranian food different than what I grew up with and what is typically available at most Iranian restaurants. From the start, this meal was such a wonderful experience. The space is beautiful and decorated so nicely. The hostess and our waitress were very warm and welcoming. The music playing helped set the mood further. We ordered the dishes recommended from our hostess and were very happy with these choices. The dishes were so flavorful and creative. I tasted flavor combinations I'd never had before. Chef Hanif Sadr has created something very special here and his love of food and Iranian hospitality really shines through. I highly recommend coming here to try something new. You'll want to come back again, as do I.

Many of the dishes are really tasty and I'm happy they opened this location. The environment is just way too loud and reverberant. We all struggled to hear each other, which made the night much less enjoyable. Even with a smaller table for 6. I'll keep doing occasional take out, but the main dining space needs to be adjusted acoustically.

We have enjoyed Chef Hanif's amazing cuisine for the past 10 years from their exclusive SF pop ups to their party caterings to their old venue and now their new home in the Mission. The food is heavenly and the staff are amazing. Anything and everything we've tried has made us yearn our next visit. Komaaj is a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts seeking a unique culinary adventure to the amazing cuisine of Northern Iran!

Delicious! Interesting flavors! Wonderful service. Reasonably priced. It doesn't get better than that. I went with two friends and all three of us couldn't get over how delicious every dish was. Every bite was an event. We'll definitely be back.

Servings a small delish menu of a few unique northern Persian dishes not found elsewhere, all tastefully presented, along with a few wines from uncommon regions like Armenia, in a beautiful setting. Cordial fast service by a fun crew.

We had a great dining experience at Komaaj last week during their soft opening. The host did an amazing and thorough job of explaining the concept and the menu and our server gave great advice on our choices. The food was exceptional. We ordered a selection of the small plates, the sharing platter and a main. This was plenty for 3 people. The flavors did not disappoint and with the place being a 15 minute walk from where we live, we will be back. Highly recommend.

I recently visited Komaaj Mazze Bar and was quite disappointed with the experience, especially considering the high prices. It is nothing like what it used to be.When I talked to the manager about why everything was so expensive, she explained it was due to the special ingredients and preparation methods they use. But honestly, charging between $8.50 and $10 for just a side of rice and having everything else priced sky-high doesn't make sense to me. They've got two places: one for takeout and another for dining in, with different menus and prices for each. It's confusing and feels like they're just finding more ways to charge us extra. The service didn't help either. The waitress was clearly not in the best mood and got pretty upset when I tried to talk about the prices. I did say sorry and spoke to the manager, who was a bit nicer but still came off as talking down to me while explaining the two different locations—even though they're connected and basically the same place. She offered a free appetizer to smooth things over, but that's not really the point. I wasn't looking for a freebie; I wanted a place I could enjoy without feeling overcharged. The manager did mention that other customers have complained about the same thing, but it doesn't seem like they're in a hurry to change anything. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to this place, but after this experience, I won't be going back. I can't recommend it to anyone either. The prices are just too much, and the whole setup with the two locations just adds to the confusion. Plus, if the staff doesn't even seem to care when you bring up these issues, it just feels like they're not interested in providing good service or value. The other take-out location nextdoor (Komaaj Pila Bazaar) has a different and inconvenient schedule and makes it difficult to be able to order from. Also, parking is awful, and the neighborhood is pretty unappealing. The whole combination makes this an average restaurant with prices of an upscale one!

Fantastic food. Great manager. We didn’t like our first order and they replaced the entire order for us. Would come back.

Absolutely one of my favorite places to eat in San Francisco. The ambiance, the fresh ingredients, the service, and of course the food, and indeed the wine selection.Dietary restrictions: Vegan options available.
