This place does not disappoint. Chef’s choice nigiri was truly excellent, house salad was also superb. Even the ice cream was just a cut above what you’d generally get from a cute urban sushi joint. Timing of courses was great—no long waits for anything and no sense of being rushed. Genuinely warm and friendly service with good recommendations. What a gem.

Came here without a reservation and was seated at the bar fairly quickly. There were several 4 tops at the window of the shop. The shop is small and was a bit cramp at the bar. Nigiri omakase was dressed nicely. The sweet shrimp came with the fried heads. Same options were decent and approachable. House made ponzu and pickled jalapeño were good. Disappointed by the escolar ceviche as I appreciate raw walu

We had to wait twenty minutes past our reservation time, but the hostess was very sweet. The food was very good (maybe a tiiiiny bit too pricey). We had the nigiri tasting - truly amazing. We also had one of the local sakes which was great. The food was very slow to come out, which was the only thing I would note that was a little disappointing.Would still recommend this place!Parking: Parking in this area is always difficult. There are no parking garages nearby so you will have to look for street parking.

Really great sushi on Valencia. Fresh atmosphere, nice wine and sake selection, and great sashimi and nigiri. The chef forgot one of our items, but made it better with free ice cream.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible!

Really good on all levels. Can't say enough good things!
My first visit to this new Kuma location. If you enjoy good sushi Kuma is the place to go in San Francisco. We go to Kuma every time I'm in San Francisco to see my daughter and I feel like the food and experience is better each time. I highly recommend the tuna collar. I've never had it anywhere else and it is awesome!
I was on the hunt for a takeout chirashi bowl in the Mission and thought I'd give this new spot a try. Given the steep $54 price, I figured this would be a one-and-done deal; but unfortunately for my wallet, the food here was absolutely incredible and reminded me what great sushi is actually supposed to taste like. My box was packaged up like a little present and laid out with the artistry of a floral arrangement. Every bite of fish was a revelation: perfect flavor, texture, and temperature, easily ranking among the best sushi I've ever had. The purple rice was beautiful and delicious, and there was even a little pamphlet describing the origins of each fish in the box. The price is high, but I'd swap two ordinary chirashi bowls for this marvelous meal without hesitation. It was a sheer sensory delight that made the rest of my day brighter, and I will definitely be coming back for more!

The menu alone makes Kuma stand out amongst the hordes or sushi spots around the city--and then the execution & quality is at yet another level.Hands down the best. (Omg the tuna wings?? I've never had anything like it.)
What a gem! The sushi is unique and excellent. A perfect accord of tastes in every dish. I was skeptical about eggplant on a sushi roll but the textures and flavors blended so well! Red leaf lettuce in a sushi roll (ebi tempura roll)? again a hit! it adds a refreshing crisp. I'd also never had tuna dorsal fin (tuna wings) before and was a little scared and took ginger bites, but it was super fun to eat! Our waitress was very helpful in explaining the difference in the fattiness of the tuna toro. The head chef also made us feel welcome. I enjoyed watching the chefs from the bar perform their craft. Sake selection was also good. We went with the staff favorite (Hakuro Suishu), which is a great balance for us. As my boyfriend says, it's one of the best sushi places in the bay area. We'll be back!
