I don’t often review anything but this place kind of struck a chord. It’s everything I want in a coffee shop and I’d like, maybe a little desperately, for establishments like this to stick around. The classic painted panels of the high walls to the light Italian opera on the stereo, there so much character in every corner of La Cuisine that you can’t help but want to just sit on the orange vinyl benches, watch the steam rise from your cup and ponder anything and everything. I don’t think my opinion matters when it comes to the technicalities of breakfast but everything was hot and fresh. The proprietor was quick and asked if I was satisfied. I was, very much. I guess I just wanted to say thank you La Cuisine for being open on a gray morning in November and giving me that very enjoyable feeling of discovery and one of the more heartwarming cups of coffee I’ve had in a while. I hope to be back.

This very tiny Cafe is near the Orpheum Theater and the perfect place before a show. It serves sandwiches, salads, and bagels. Be warned, there are only a few tables and a few chairs.

Absolutely Rude.I with my parents 75y.o mother can’t drink coffee. I asked the guy in the cashier to bring me an additional big cup with almond milk. He gave me a tiny cup, but mom need it to pour her herbal tea.
The guys was busy repeating our order to the lady that cooks at least 4 times.
I decided not to interrupt him anymore, and simply grab a cup to serve my mom. He yelled at me in a very loud tone.
He stated by law i cannot touch anything in his restaurant. I apologized politely. Explained he was busy and we were in a hurry to go to the airport.
He didn’t accept my apology, in fact he yelled loudly, my senior parents were getting scared.
I apologized again and told him I didn’t know that rule, and that I was in Starbucks in SF and grabbed a straw and didn’t get yelled. I also went last night to see Rigoberto and asked in the bar for a cup of plastic to serve water and the guy told me just grab it.
I work in a hospital and I understand covid times but I didn’t “ touch” this cup to leave it there for others to use. He said these cups are “ only for the coffee maker “ it was confusing since hi served my dad’s coffee in the very same cup.
I told him “ I am sorry again” and maybe you can put a sign saying “ ask for stuff , by California rule do not touch “
He said that was a rule from the world.
I told him my English was not good so I thought it was practical to just grab it. And he was busy with the cook.
The cashier in the La Cousine Cafe, went on and on and won’t stop yelling at me. I thought one yelling of him and one apologizing of me was enough, but he continued, si i explained that people that travel around the world may not know this California law where you can touch / grab an additional cup after paying $45.86 for service yo eat. Additionally, this place has no waitresses so i absolutely thought it was “ self service “ also, in my country you can grab and one or two just fine .
He replied no this is a rule around the world, and you don’t cone her to tell me how to do my job.
I wonder why he can touch my cup where I will directly drink from it, but I can’t touch my cup? I also explained I put alcohol before I eat and my hands were clean, he said “ I don’t care! You cannot touch anything in my restaurant “
The order can back wrong we asked for almond milk and got oat milk. The eggs were incorrect. We left almost all the food there.
As we left the place my mother cried scared for the screams. I came back for the receipt, and hi and his cook were both laughing about us and the food we left.
Two Italian people came and I saw they grabbed things and were not yelled.
There was a place leave us with a bitter flavor of SF, we can to see the famous opera and see a friend that played in Rigoletto’s last night.the service in this place was cruel, uncivilized, unkind, and intolerant.
I told the hotel that recommended this place to me , where I stay so we all could go to the opera the night before, they said it is not the first time they hear something like this.
Not a standard for what I believe San Francisco is .

Stopped here waiting an hour for the bart to open. I knew nothing about this cafe previously, so it was my delight to see the beautiful atmosphere present in such a compact space. I got a Gibraltar which I had no experience with, one sugar/sweetener later and it was a relaxing way to begin my Sunday. Found by accident but will be returning, great place.
