Le Central delivers a true French bistro experience. The escargot was rich and garlicky, the steak frites perfectly cooked, and the mussels full of flavor. Finished with a classic crème brûlée that was spot on. Cozy atmosphere and attentive service make it a place I'd happily return to.
I had the cassoulet. I thought it was quite authentic and good. My one glass of Syrah was excellent although pricy? even by SF standards. Picked the restaurant because I thought it wound be less noisy than typical SF bistro. It may be, but still fairly loud- not an intimate or romantic experience, but not deafening. Service was efficient but food was a bit slow to come. All in all, no complaints- would return.
Le Central is a GEM of a restaurant, we love it. It transports you to a Parisian bistro with the French staff, delicious (can't go wrong) menu options and I typically have to get a cocktail and a glass of wine since there is a wonderful selection. The neon sign outside and brick interior are the cherry on top. Fantastique!
Went there for an epic celebration lunch. Classic French cuisine - we had cassoulet (their signature dish) and a salade Lyonnaise with duck. Both dishes highlight the most succulent duck confit you could ever want! Extensive wine list by the glass or by the bottle - from reasonable to $$$$ in price. Their Chinon paired perfectly with the food and low-ish alcohol too. And a Willie Brown sighting at the front table. What could be more San Francisco?
This restaurant is a true gem. The moment you step inside, you're greeted with a cozy charm that makes you feel like you've discovered a well-kept secret from another era. The décor tells stories of the past, and every detail—from the woodwork to the vintage photographs—adds to its timeless atmosphere.
We love the service, food and drink selection. We dine here every time we visit San Francisco
Food was perfect. Onion soup was one of the best that I have tried. Service was great as well. Restaurant is really cute.
Excellent as usual. Loved the oysters. I tasted the escargot and it was very nice also. The profiterol was a great finale. Thanks
The food served was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was very helpful in suggesting items to add to our menu selection. Service was prompt and courteous. The endive lettuce was artfully composed and the beef bourguignon very tender. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
The onion soup was great. The chicken was dry, and the sauce for it was ordinary. The fries with the chicken were just ok.

Food was mediocre to say the least. Every dish was just nothing. Beef tar-tar - dry, tasteless, not seasoned and a quail egg. Whole egg, not egg yolk. Escargot - not seasoned, tasteless. Beef Bourgogne - chewy!! Huge pieces of meat that stick between your teeth. Also tasteless. Upsetting experience.

Cozy French dining off a busy thoroughfare with relaxed vibes and amazing staff. Every time I visit, I’m meeting a new “regular” at the bar, and one thing we all agree is that you can’t go wrong with ANY dish. I’m partial to the onion soup (a no brainer), but the asparagus soup is also delish. Entrees are all cooked to perfection. To get a good sampling, happy hour would be a great option to work your way through the variety of apps - again, you can’t go wrong with any selection!
The vibe is great for any occasion - friends, a date, business lunch, and even solo.
Definitely worth a visit!
