The $22 Giant Croissant: Worth Every Flaky Bite

Let me just say this: when a croissant requires a 2-day pre-order, you know you’re in for something special.

Tucked in the heart of the Castro, Bistro Le Marais Crêperie isn’t just a bakery—it’s a vibe. Between the laid-back Parisian décor, sun-drenched café tables, and the so-SF-it-hurts soundtrack of quiet laptop clicks and oat milk lattes, it’s the kind of place you come to feel a little fancy and a lot full.

Now, let’s talk about the star of the show:
The Giant Croissant ($22 and worth every penny). This thing is a buttery beast—golden, glossy, and crisp on the outside with a warm, soft, laminated interior that dreams are made of. You can literally hear the flake crackle as you pull it apart. It’s not just a croissant, it’s an event.

The staff? Lovely. Patient. Totally cool with my croissant enthusiasm. Watching them wrap this carb treasure felt like I was witnessing a delicate pastry ceremony.

Also, major props for the space itself—airy, calm, clean, and filled with natural light. It’s the kind of place you could post up for hours with a friend, a book, or a hot gossip session over espresso and crêpes.

Bottom line:
Plan ahead. Order the croissant. Clear your morning. Your tastebuds will thank you.

I’ve ordered several times via Williams Sonoma and the products are direct ship from the bakery. Generally I’ve always lost 30 to 40% of the product due to insufficient care in packaging but today I received an order that was shipped in a simple plain cardboard box, not even a shipping container with zero cold pack of any kind at all. Obviously the product had thawed and fully risen long before it reached me and there I could smell the spoiled dough before I opened the box. This company is obviously uninterested in shipping products anywhere. Don’t waist your time or your money.

their croissant awards are legit! the almond croissant is top tier — less rich and crispier take compared to arsicaults, but stands on its own.

Jehar was a gem. Incredibly nice and giving. This place was clean, and you can taste the freshness. The mocha was made to perfection. Not too sweet nor to bland. You could tell they put a lot of time and effort to how they craft everything here would highly recommend.

Every time I come to San Francisco, I always have to stop here and enjoy getting to slow down for a moment with a great cappuccino and a croissant.

My family and I visited your restaurant during the holidays, eager to support a cherished neighborhood spot. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations due to significant service issues.

We ordered three dishes at the same time, but only two were served initially. My dish was delayed, and after waiting patiently for 30 minutes, my partner approached the cashier to inquire about it. The response, “Did she pay for it?” was disappointing, especially since payment is required upfront at your establishment. After confirming that we had indeed paid, we were told it would be ready in two minutes.

However, another 10 minutes passed, and during this time, the table next to us—who had ordered the same dish—was served before me. When my partner followed up again, my dish finally arrived, but it was rushed and placed on the table without any acknowledgment or apology for the delay.

While I understand the challenges of the holiday season, waiting nearly an hour for a dish with no communication about the delay was frustrating. As much as we wanted to enjoy our experience, the lack of attentiveness and care in addressing the situation left a lasting negative impression. I hope this feedback helps improve service for future guests.

Croissants are fluffy inside and crispy outside, my favorite is the almond croissant where its almond filling is consistently spread in the pastry. They are a full bakery with the store front as a cafe, and sell frozen pastries to bring home.

Couldn’t be happier for having this spot in my neighborhood. They have buttery croissants, good coffee and cute atmosphere.

The service sometimes gets slow if they have many guests.

My favorite is the chocolate almond croissant. It is super rich and I usually finish it from two takes.
