Awesome place. Only downside was that I wasn't hungry enough to order more. Definitely a great place.

Would go back, so yummy, if not for very rude manager. Not just me but many friends have had bad encounters with this woman. I would love to eat here again, but everyone refuses to return on this woman’s account. Too bad

Wow. This place was amazing. I don’t get the snobbish comments saying otherwise. We enjoyed an excellent Austrian beer and wine. We had the braised short ribs (fall-off-the-bone tender), the bratwurst and sauerkraut, and the bacon-wrapped trout. All three dishes were delicious. Although the trout was a bit dry, the leek medley and broth served with it were exceptional: crisp, tender, and very flavorful. It’s truly rare to find a vegetable accompaniment that shines like this. (Too often the vegetables are just a space filler on the dish.) the beer selection was fun and interesting as was the small selection of international wines. Service was friendly. Atmosphere was warm and cheerful. Oh, and the pretzel was a 4.5 out of 5. And this is coming from a pretzel aficionado, who has eaten them all over Europe and is always looking to replicate and experience in southern Germany.

What a place. The food was fantastic. We had the trout salad , kasespatzle and the half charcuterie board(enough meat for 2).beer selection was excellent as well. Never had a schloss eggenburg pilsner before. Very good.

Dear Americans, please don't think that this restaurant has anything to do with Austrian cuisine or atmosphere. It´s clear that the food is geared towards American tastes, but the taste, and even the way it's prepared, couldn't be further from Austrian cuisine. The brass band music that's played way too loudly in the restaurant is only heard by a few alpine pastors in Austria. I have no idea what the owner is thinking. Don't get me wrong, the food was edible, but it's definitely not a place to get to know Austrian culture.

Walked in on a Friday night at 9:30pm, last seating at 9:45pm and kitchen closes at 10pm. Bartenders were super friendly, best schnitzel in SF and the Apflestrudel was done right, we inhaled it in 2 minutes! 120% would come back. Thank you for a great time!
I'm updating my review. Since covid and change in ownership, Leopold's has become a disappointment every time I go in. The owner is rude and doesn't seem to want customers. The bratwurst is no longer 3 small pieces and great, and the cost of a beer is $13, which is outrageous. I live close by and would like to keep this option for visitors but no more.

Went at 11am on a Saturday and the brunch food was actually great, the short rib hash, flatbread and waffles were a hit! Service was pretty slow but overall a nice place, felt like I was at Oktoberfest in there

Had such a great time here. The staff were super friendly and made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. Service was quick, but never rushed, and they checked in just the right amount. You can tell they really care about the experience. Definitely coming back!

I was looking for a taste of Austria in SF after visiting Salzburg a couple of years back and found Leopold's when searching for Austrian restaurants online. It is the only one and located on Polk Street on Russian Hill. The interior has a festive chalet vibe with a lot of wooden features. I wanted something hearty, so I ordered the paprika beef goulash, which came with a house salad and spätzle along with a Stiegl beer. While goulash is known as a Hungarian dish, there is an Austrian version with a few ingredient differences. Enjoyed my meal here, which was filling and satisfying. Prices are on the moderate side for SF. I would say ordering a main is sufficient, but you may want to order an appetizer if you are dining with a group.
