One of the coolest, or, dare I say it, the coolest place in the mission. Many nights they have bands starting around seven or 730, and then around 9:30 or 10 it turns into a DJ dance party. Also, dig that funky decor .
I've been going here for something like 20 years. They're as welcoming to newbies as they are to regulars. It's a great place to see a live show, run into local celebrities, or just drink. I've seen people fall in and out of love at the Make Out Room. I'd call it an institution, but that sounds stuffy. The MOR is the opposite of stuffy. It's a dreamy, boozy, roll your sleeves up and drink or dance the night away sort of joint.
Jonathan Richman doing his annual residency here and occasionally frequenting the joint (among other micro heroes) should be enough for most people to worship the threshold of this place. But if it’s not, consider that it is one of the longest running independent venues in the Mission District allowing the independent music scene and culture to continually thrive.
