We sat at the bar last night and the bartender/ manager with the longish beard took such good care of us. Was not overbearing in anyway and chatted to us about the menu and checked in on us throughout. The food was superb. Really fresh sushi and presented so beautifully. Our favourite meal in SF of my trip <3 thank you !

Visiting from LA and this place came highly recommended. Service was pretty slow but everyone was super nice and helpful. Food was good but not great. Fish quality was very good. It was super packed and I don’t think I’d be coming back any time soon.

Came for the Cookie doll roll specifically but tried some of their popular apps and rolls. On more of the expensive side but loved how the sushi rolls had a perfect rice to fish ratio. Would def come here again if splurging

We really enjoyed the food and friendly service. Recommend reservations as even on a Wednesday in February it was packed. We sat outside as there was a wait for inside seating. Turned out to be a fun place to sit and watch people walking down Chestnut street Updated from previous review on 2026-02-20

Great service and food. Good vibe even on a Sunday night. Very creative rolls and large menu

Delicious food (especially the poke tacos) and great service by very pleasant servers! This restaurant is always great. The prices are a bit high, but overall the food is worth it. I highly recommend this restaurant for great sushi and other Japanese food.

I was visiting SF from Vegas for my friend’s birthday and had an amazing experience at Mamanoko. Special thanks to Matt for the excellent recommendations and outstanding service. We’ll definitely be returning!

Placed in a $150 take away order with the server, and with 20 empty seats within eyesight on a Monday night was told there was “nowhere to sit” to wait for the order. One industry person to another, that ain’t it.

Some do the food was good, but nothing blew me away. Wasn't super welcoming when we walked in, but other staff members were nice.

Very busy place (as most places in this area are) but we were able to get in as walk-in. I was unimpressed with the dishes we got - the place tries to modernize Japanese cuisine, but as far as I'm concerned, Japanese cuisine requires no modernization, and most versions were far less impressive than the authentic originals. Tonkatsu bun (instead of bread) was practically falling apart, with the bun too flimsy to hold up to something like a thick tonkatsu. Toro cakes were mediocre, and the tuna flavor wasn't balanced right on the fried rice ball. The tuna nigiri had fishy after taste. The croquettes had heavy breading but out of all the dishes were probably the best one - especially the pickles that came with it. The cookie dough roll is an odd one, and nothing to write home about.

Delicious Japanese fusion cuisine with a creative flair in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Great service. Definitely recommended.

Overall, the experience was positive. The wait staff may have too many tables, as it took our waiters a little time to get to us. Additionally, once he took our order, he forgot items and had to be reminded of the request. The ambience was nice, with some of the food being presented uniquely and differently. The volume was perfect - altogether a good experience
