My favorite bar in the Bay. I’m trans masc & always feel welcome (& I act respectfully with the space I take up in this queer lady bar). Thank you Mother!

They have a very discriminatory policy for entering. I thought SF is supposed to be inclusive?

Mother Bar definitely has the best mixologists in San Francisco! The crew is friendly, interacts with the customers and are the best tour guides!

Wonderful bartenders, enthusiastic management, friendly and protective bouncer, I really enjoyed my time here. There's not many bars like this where I find other people to dance with, but I had so much fun and I was quite pleased with the pleasant energy of the crowd! It is a cash only bar, but there is an ATM machine, just as you walk in. The bouncer also does a good job in an attempt to make sure those coming in, are appropriate attending a "lesbian" bar. I'm looking forward to going again!

It makes me sad that lesbian places are lazy. There was no good atmosphere, more than a bar it seemed like a meeting in a house with friends who want to have a very quiet time. The cocktails they sell are excessively sweet.
Of course, the space is comfortable, clean, safe and there is no cover.
This is my 2nd time coming into this bar.
I like the lesbian vibe although I’m a gay male.
I’ve never been interrogated or questioned when I attempt to walk in.
Just odd. I’ve been reading other reviews.
I’d give 5-stars but it’s “Cash Only”
Standard bar but with a cool, chill vibe.
I was stopped at the door and interrogated by the bouncer: "You know this is a lesbian bar?" "You're not straight are you?" "Are you meeting someone here?" Implying I needed an escort/sponsor to be in the space.
As a non-binary person I've found it difficult to find safe fun celebratory spaces and was really looking forward to being in a sapphic environment. It was demoralizing and embarrassing to be questioned in this way.
Medium length hair, heals, Pride flag jean-jacket (my outfit) doesn't meet the mark if you’re AMAB. Bummer.
Not a "lesbian-leaning" space, rather a lesbian-exclusive space. Which is fine, since women don't get enough in our community or world. The business should be more upfront online about the extent with which they expect the clientele to present femme-queer or become a members only bar.
These changes would help prevent people getting their hopes up and traveling to the Mission specifically for Mother, only to be sized up and rejected in a similar fashion to straight and masculine-queer spaces.
I guess I'll stick to Oasis in SoMo.

I was asked out to go to this bar by some friends but when I arrived the bouncer said I needed to be escorted in by a lady, it made sense since it was the only lesbian bar, but to judge someone based off their gender I believe is completely wrong that like going in the Castro and saying hey your a women you can’t be in here it just sexist. My friends finally came and the experience was great once we were served our drinks but It was terrible that I had to wait in the cold for 20 minutes.

The bouncer called my friend who is trans a man and made our whole friend group (we are all queer) super uncomfortable—also when we got inside the vibes were very terfy and I saw more than one head of white dreads lolI personally cannot recommend this bar to anyone who isn’t afab or extremely cis passing. I’d rather go to El Rio !! Someplace actually fun and inclusive !! It sucks cus I was hoping for a cool new lesbian bar but that just wasn’t it. I did read an interview with the owner and I gotta say that our experience didn’t sound like what she’s trying to cultivate at all, so maybe the staff will get better training and vibes will improve? Fingers crossed!
