Stoped at door and was interrogated by bouncer: "You know this is a lesbian bar?" "You're not straight are you?" "Are meeting someone here?"As a non-binary person I've found it difficult to find safe fun celebratory spaces and was really looking forward to being a fem queer space. It was demoralizing and embarrassing to be questioned in this way.Not a "lesbian-leaning" space, rather a lesbian-exclusive space. Which is fine, since women don't get enough in our community or world, but the business should be more upfront about the extent with which they want the clientele to present femme-queer. Medium length hair, heals, Pride flag jean-jacket (my outfit) doesn't meet the mark if your AMAB. Bummer.I guess I'll stick to Oasis in SoMo.

I was asked out to go to this bar by some friends but when I arrived the bouncer said I needed to be escorted in by a lady, it made sense since it was the only lesbian bar, but to judge someone based off their gender I believe is completely wrong that like going in the Castro and saying hey your a women you can’t be in here it just sexist. My friends finally came and the experience was great once we were served our drinks but It was terrible that I had to wait in the cold for 20 minutes.

The bouncer called my friend who is trans a man and made our whole friend group (we are all queer) super uncomfortable—also when we got inside the vibes were very terfy and I saw more than one head of white dreads lolI personally cannot recommend this bar to anyone who isn’t afab or extremely cis passing. I’d rather go to El Rio !! Someplace actually fun and inclusive !! It sucks cus I was hoping for a cool new lesbian bar but that just wasn’t it. I did read an interview with the owner and I gotta say that our experience didn’t sound like what she’s trying to cultivate at all, so maybe the staff will get better training and vibes will improve? Fingers crossed!

It's for the girls, not for the gays. This is the only LGBTQ bar I've been turned away from.

One of the few femme queer bars in SF. A hidden gem if you show up on the right night.

Bouncer was hostile to men coming in. It's so odd because me and my husband (two gay men) live around the corner, and just wanted to support our local neighborhood queer bar. Bouncer needs to be more welcoming.

Cash only. ATM is available here. We stopped by on a Tuesday night at the recommendation of a bartender at another bar and were delighted. Delicious mango margarita, IPA from only women owned brewery in SF, and a friendly queer vibe.

There last night, which was a Monday and the place was bangin. The bartender (Justine??) was hella hot and I ordered a cocktail appropriately named ^ blush ^ hehe. Price was reasonable too. Stayed until the end and there were crowds of womyn in their 20s & 30s screamin near the dancing portion. Great energy and made me reminesce of the good ole days since I was here in the late 90s. Oh shit did that gave my age away? Next time I will bring my wifey. Btw although Mother doesnt allow food, options r plenty on 16th St. Tacos/Pizza/Pakistani. U name it. They dont mimd if you bring food in. I stayed until 11:45 pm (van u believe it this lesbian bar opens until Midnight Mondays) so hey you fellow dykes, dont keep complaining there r no good lesbian bars. The gays kept Moby Dick & so many alive in the Castro, lets reclaim the Mission!!! Oh yeah, the bounder told me tbe business is Lesbian owned. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I'll remember those memories for the rest of my life. My boyfriend and I (transgender) went with a polycule of young transgender lesbian women. We served as their photographer and had an amazing time.

It's a lesbian-leaning spot, so that's awesome! Inside, you'll find a long, galley-type bar that stretches down the narrow space with tall ceilings. Elements of its vintage history speak throughout the interior architecture. Lighting is subtle and dim, and in the rear of the bar is a screen, with comfy seating beneath it. Head to the back for a lounge type vibe after grabbing a drink from the bar; bartenders are hip, fun, and friendly, serving up tasty cocktails. You won't find food options inside, so if you want to eat while there, grab food at a nearby taqueria or a slice of pizza next door and bring it in... yes, it's allowed. Mother is a great space, but it needs better ventilation, like a big fan or two in the back. It gets super stuffy on nights with a lot of people in there. If you're gay, lesbian, queer, bisexual, trans or a respectable ally, head here for a cozy, intimate experience.

Ya know, it does the trick. It's nice to have a female focused lgbtq venue, but they can't seem to decide if it's a dance hall or a sit and chat bar. Gets packed and loud, not a good place to take a first date & talk. Staff is pretty stuck up, but overall you can get a drink within 10 min when crowded.
