The buns here are really good. The bread was incredibly soft and airy with such a delectable milky-sweet flavor. Beef curry filling was okay but BBQ pork was excellent. Decent amount of filling, no red dye, and absolutely delicious. Pork floss bun is also amazing if you're looking for something more savory.

Mr. Bread is the first time I bought egg tarts, pineapple buns, barbecued pork buns, and chicken cakes. They were all messy. The walnut cake was so unpalatable and old-fashioned. It was a waste of food to throw it in the trash can.

Mr bread's bread is always good and my favorite is corn bread. The bread is so fluffy and the mayo on top with the ham is in perfect flavor. I highly recommend it!!

Indulging in the Baked Portuguese Tart at Mr Bread bakery in San Francisco was truly a culinary delight. The moment I bit into the perfectly flaky pastry, I was met with the velvety smoothness of the custard filling. The balance of sweetness and richness was impeccable, making it an absolute must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth. As for the Pineapple Red Bean Bun, it was a delightful surprise. The combination of pineapple and red bean created a unique and flavorful blend that danced on my taste buds. The bun itself was soft and pillowy, providing a satisfying texture to complement the intriguing fusion of sweet and savory notes. The attention to detail in both pastries showcased the bakery's commitment to quality. The ambiance was inviting, and the service was friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. Mr Bread bakery has certainly earned a spot on my list of go-to places for delectable treats in San Francisco. Highly recommended!

Very traditional and authentic Asian bakery spot. Their Portuguese egg tart is a must have. The tart tastes very similar to what I used to have in China. Be aware that this place is cash only.

Husband was not going to let go of his last chance to get baked bbq pork buns before leaving San Francisco. He sent his daughter and me with some cash to stand in line to purchase bbq pork buns. We also wanted to get custard tarts. I wanted a ham and cheese bun for breakfast and daughter wanted the vanilla cream triangular sponge cake. Daughter saw that a couple of ladies before us were waiting for their order of custard tarts and asked them how long they were told that it would take for the fresh batch to be ready. They helpfully told us 5 minutes which would be about the time it would take to get to the front of the line for service. The ladies of Mr. Bread were efficient at bringing out the freshly baked custard tarts and delivering them to waiting customers who on average ordered a box of half a dozen custard tarts. The custard tarts were fresh out of the oven and hot. Daughter was impressed with the large diameter of almost 3 inches. She liked the extremely thin layer of vanilla cream that kept the two halves of sponge cake together. She really enjoyed sharing the sponge cake with her sister. This is one of the Asian bakeries we visit when we are in San Francisco.

When visiting the Bay Area, I got to make a stop in a local Chinese bakery to get some Egg Tarts. This place is cash only. We got a couple of Egg Tarts and some breads. The tarts were creamy and had a nice flaky crust. It had the perfect amount of sweetness too. The breads were delicious too, we had them the next day and it still tasted just as fresh. I saw they had Portuguese Egg Tarts too so I'll have to try those next time!

Mr. Bread is popular for their portugese tarts for good reason - flaky tart shell, perfectly (but not overly) sweet egg custard, and always fresh out the oven. The Macau-style portugese tarts here are a bit wider in size than what I've tried in Europe and they don't caramelize as much of each tart, but every bite keeps its toasty flavor and crisp. When eaten right away, it's a perfect little bite of heaven in a $2.50 tart.Feasting on your tart as soon as you come out the bakery is ideal, but note that the bakery itself does not have seating and is overall a narrow store. With that said - the tart also heats up great in a toaster oven or air fryer. Beyond portugese tarts, Mr. Bread also offers the standard fare of fresh Chinese-style bread baked daily and made-to-order cakes. They only accept cash as a mom & pop bakery, and can take larger phone orders in advance. Would recommend those eyeing portugese tarts to come 1-2hrs before close time, since they do sell out by weekend late afternoons.
