Came in without a resevation. The lady wasn't too happy but gave us a table anyway. The service was fast but perhaps too fast (if there is such a thing!) because kaarage was pinkish inside. The garlic edamame and the pork belly were good.

Nomu Skewers near Union Square is a hidden gem that transports you straight to Tokyo. From the fresh sushi to the mouthwatering Kushiyaki, every bite is a culinary delight. Don't miss their Tsukune with raw egg yolk dip or the lobster tail skewers. With impeccable service and a cozy ambiance, this modern Izakaya-style restaurant is a must-visit in San Francisco.

The staff was really nice and attentive, shout out to our waitress as we made a request to have the door closed as it was really windy and we sat next to it. She made sure that the door was closed the entire time we ate! If you are looking for a more casual izakaya in SF I would say this is really nice as it isn't super heavily impacted and booked up with people! A really cute hidden gem super close to Chinatown. Food was good and pretty cheap. We opted to get skewers and one sushi role. Some of the skewers were kind of bland but nothing salt and pepper couldn't fix! One notable skewer was their A5 Wagyu! A must get when coming here, as well as their matcha cheesecake!

I'm all for more izakayas in the city, even though I prefer the more casual ones you'd find in the midnight alleyways of Tokyo. As I was strolling atypically up Bush, this one felt a bit more upscale than those compact dives as it appeared to draw the still-working FiDi crowds as well as tourists lost on their way to Chinatown's Dragon Gate. I came in by myself and felt a bit self-conscious seated between two couples, one romantic, the other obviously mismatched. I decided to order a glass of Junmai, the $15 Nanbu Bijin (Tokubetsu) from Iwate, a refreshing sake with a light cantaloupe flair with notes of roasted peanuts (photo: It was definitely enough to keep me company for my solitary meal. I first went for the $10 Chawanmushi. This is one of my favorite comfort treats, a cup of steamed egg custard with seafood, chicken, and mushrooms inside (photo: Solid comfort treat for me. Then came the yakitori skewers, just three pair. I ordered the $12 Pork Belly with garlic paste sauce, the $9 Chicken Skin with a squeeze of lemon, and the $9 Chicken Scallion with intact thigh meat marinated in soy sauce (photo: Good succulent choices all. FOOD - 4 stars...well executed izakaya favorites, wish the yakitori was a little bigger AMBIANCE - 4 stars...modern setting, definitely not a midnight-style izakaya SERVICE - 3.5 stars..a bit stealth but effective TOTAL - 4 stars...more yakitori please RELATED - Exploring Chinatown? Ambiance: casual Service: good Food: average I feel like the food was half good and half bad. The sashimi platter was very disappointing: it was not fresh at all. If you appreciate good sashimi, I would skip this. Whole squid -The texture was good and love the sauce it came with As for the skewers, some were overcooked which made it taste rubbery. BUT some of my favorites were: chicken skin, uangi, shishito peppers, and mushrooms.

I had my delicious Japanese food there. Truly like the location and atmosphere Clean and beautiful great staff, and of course my favorite wine was there

So I've been to Japan a few times and this is nothing close to Japanese food. The garlic edamame was covered in red pepper flakes and barely edible. The chicken skewers were thoroughly underwhelming and the miso soup was incredibly strange. Service and ambience were fine but the food was just low quality for me. Beautiful restaurant but I would stick to Rintaro when you want quality japanese yakitori

Needed a quick bite near the theaters, with one kid. This really hit the spot. Service was friendly, if not super fast. Fried oysters were a hit.
