My friend brought me here for happy hour. I had 2 margaritas and quesabirria tacos. They are the best! Try the mango margarita it’s very tasty. The music is good, great atmosphere and friendly staff :)

I feel a bit misled by the glowing reviews. The burrito tasted like it had been sitting in one of those heated display shelves for hours. The avocado pieces inside had an extremely metallic taste, which is something that can happen when avocado is cooked, then cools for too long, and then gets reheated again. Even the tortilla was overly browned, like it had been premade and then left on a warmer far past its prime.

The birria tacos were also very off-putting. I should have stuck with my usual spot, but I tried this place because it had a higher rating. After tasting the food, I honestly don’t understand why. Everything was just extremely unappetizing. I would never order from here again.

The best of the North Beach casual eating vibe and the best burrito, outside of the Mission, I have come across. My go-to when I'm in the neighborhood.

North Beach Cantina catererd my daughter's wedding and did an amazing job. Food was so good, reasonably priced, staff was professional, and Madalina was great at answering all of our questions, she was very responsive. Wish I would have taken pictures!

I stopped here for some food and drinks in the middle of the day so it still wasnt busy. The food was good and staff was attentive. Good service overall. I mainly enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. Daniel our bartender was fun to talk to and he gave us some good bar recommendations to try out for later in the evening, which we did end up going to and had a great time!

I've been wanting to try this place for a while.
As a chef of 30 years if I was to ask one of my chef friends to make me a mission style burrito, I would expect something a bit nicer than a taqueria in the mission. I would expect more than one salsa with my chips, and a little something extra for flavor and texture. Well.......your mission style burrito kills it. I had three different sauces in my bag with the side of chips I purchased. Awesome! Burrito was killer, perfect.
I also wanted to thank the fabulous gentlemen at the bar for taking my order at the end of the day which I don't recommend people do. He was fabulous and commentating. Excited to go back for dinner tonight.

We visited North Beach Cantina (1548 Stockton St, San Francisco) for the first time on a warm, sunny afternoon, and it turned out to be exactly the casual, satisfying meal we had been hoping for. We secured a table in their parklet, which felt charming and was perfect for people-watching, soaking up the sunshine, and immersing ourselves in the lively energy of North Beach.

We began our meal with chips and guacamole. The guacamole was fresh and nicely seasoned, while the chips were crisped to perfection. The salsa that accompanied them truly stole the spotlight: it was tangy, a little spicy, and very addictive. I regret not asking for its name, but it’s definitely something I’ll be coming back for. The horchata was a wonderful complement—creamy, with just the right amount of cinnamon, refreshing in the midst of all the savory flavors.

For our main courses, we shared the California Burrito and Street-Style Tacos. The burrito was just what you want when craving comfort: a generous portion filled with good carne asada, crispy fries, Pico de Gallo, and sour cream, hearty and satisfying. However, the tacos were the highlight. We ordered three, each filled with tender, well-marinated meat and topped simply with onions, cilantro, and lime. The simplicity allowed the quality of the ingredients to shine—no distractions, just pure flavor.

Some notable points that I think others will appreciate: the service was warm and not rushed, making it easy to settle in; the décor was polished yet relaxed, featuring wood tones, clean lines, and some fun murals, creating a welcoming atmosphere whether you’re with friends or dining solo. The menu also offered a nice variety—so even if you don’t want a big burrito, there are lighter options available. Additionally, the pricing seems reasonable considering the portion sizes, especially given the location.

A bit of background: North Beach Cantina opened in 2022, taking over the former Tacolicious space. The team behind it has restaurant experience throughout the Bay Area (including Underdogs Too, Underdogs Tres, and others).

Overall, North Beach Cantina is casual and unpretentious, demonstrating genuine care in both the food and atmosphere. We left feeling satisfied and full, and I’m already thinking about what I’ll try next time. If you’re in the area and craving good Mexican food in a relaxed setting, this is definitely one spot worth visiting. visiting.

During my first trip to San Francisco and ordered the Mission Style Chicken Bowl. The food was fresh & flavorful—definitely hit the spot after a day of exploring the city!
It’s more of a bar-style setup, and like a lot of similar places, there’s kind of an unspoken expectation that you’ll grab a drink with your food. That said, the vibe here was friendly and relaxed, and the staff didn’t pressure me or make me feel out of place. The space itself is clean, welcoming, and has a local charm that made the whole experience enjoyable.
Would definitely come back next time I’m in town—especially to try more from the menu (and maybe a cocktail too).
