I recently tried the medium-sized omakase menu priced at $125. While the nigiri sushi was fresh and enjoyable, I was disappointed by the absence of popular choices like fatty tuna and uni, which are typically included in omakase experiences. The casual atmosphere in a mall setting added charm, but the overall lack of interaction with the chef and the somewhat bland food selection left me underwhelmed.Other omakase places have price tag twice higher so it not super honest to compare, but I wouldn’t return to Oma again. And while I had a decent time, I cannot recommend it to others.

What a great little gem tucked away in the Japantown mall. Delicious fish, and beef. Some of the best nigiri and sake I've ever had outside Japan.

Very disappointing. For how much we paid for this meal (>$250) the food was so mediocre and fishy. I would not come back and was very confused as to how this place got so many Michelin awards… this was the least satisfying sushi experience I’ve had in San Francisco and we paid a lot of money for it which made it worse. If the price was lower maybe I’d expect less good sushi but for this price, the food was bad.

I had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday with my husband at this restaurant. We got seated when we got there and ordered our bottle of sake. They had a small selection but we asked for a recommendation since we aren't familiar with sake. The bottle they offered was perfect for what we wanted. Each dish was fresh and flavorful. By the end they asked if we wanted anything ala cart but the omakase we chose was plenty enough. Would recommend coming here for a date.

The best food Ive had in 2023! Everything was wonderful. The rice was beautifully seasoned and cooked. The variety of very fresh fish was amazing. The hostess was kind and attentive, and the sushi chefs were awesome and informative. I loved every bite and would 100% recommend! I cant choose my favorite because they were all so good.

I've been here before the pandemic when they first open and I loved it. It is pretty affordable and filling. Well depending on which omakase you order. My gf pre-order their top for 160 preset omakase meal. She thought it was pretty pricy and thought it was ok but for me, I enjoyed it very much . I guess everyone has their own preferences and taste. I would try their smaller set menu at a cheaper price before you try their 160 pre-set omakase. Overall this is my review and not my friend which I give them 4 star.

The sushi chef was really nice to talk to and taught me a lot about the different fish he was serving.

This sushi experience exceeded all my expectations. Without a doubt, it stands as some of the best sushi I've ever had in the United States. What truly set it apart was the impeccable freshness of the fish, consistently served at the perfect temperature. Nestled in a cozy, intimate setting with just six seats, it offered an intimate dining experience that made it even more special. The pricing, considering the quality, was surprisingly reasonable. Though we opted for the middle-tier menu, in hindsight, I regret not going for the top-tier option, as it must have been an even more exceptional culinary journey. If you have a passion for exquisitely fresh fish, this place is an absolute must-visit.

This place is inside Japanese town in downtown SF. Despite all the 1 star reviews, I gave it a try and surprisingly it was really good. You actually got full for those little sushi. The price matches the quality and quantity. The duck and uni was the best for me. The chef was really nice and talked to us through the whole course. They have limited seatings, so reservation was recommended. They were not busy at the time we were there.

So I've had mixed experiences with Oma. I've been here twice now, once in 2019 and again in 2023. The first time I visited in 2019 was for a birthday dinner. The experience was great! Our chef and server were so nice and talked to us a lot. The chef, even though he was admittedly hungover (lol), was super informative, and you could tell he put alooot of forethought into his special dishes. I remember he had a fish bone soup that he had been stewing for days to get the rich flavor. He seemed super proud of what he was creating. My second time around was pretty lack luster. We ordered the 24-course menu that included 12 pieces of nigiri. The chef was nice but didn't really talk much other than to tell us the name of what he was serving. Dont get me wrong the fish waa fine, its just since the location isnt very special--its located inal a little corner of a mall that seats aboit only 8 people snugly-- i thought the service made up for it last time. This time, it was only ok. I thought it was cute that they let you choose your own sake cup too, but sadly, mine had some moold in it that I didn't find til later. Overall, there are sooo many other cool places to eat for around the same price in sf. The 24 piece dinner for 2 with one bottle of middle priced sake was a little over $500.

Such a small cute place in Japantown. Chef is incredibly attentive and really knows what he is doing.Got the omakase and some sake along with it, ended up being around $150 per person. It was around a 2 hour long experience, and each bite was sublime. Some of the best salmon and fatty tuna I've ever had. Highly recommend.

The fish was fresh and the hostess was nice. I'm glad our omokase dinners were less costly than others around SF, because that was not the best experience. I think our chef was a robot, there was no explaination about the fish we were being served, let alone any of the plates of food that just kind of appeared in front of us. I didn't get a sense someone was had crafting our meal or bothering to engage with customers. Half the time the nice hostess had to chime in to answer our questions and explain what we were eating. We not overly demanding customers, but when you do spend $300+ for a meal, there has to be some level of engagement, pride in what you are creating for your customers. Rather we left feeling a little depressed, and a sleepy little place like that needs every bit of energy from it's kitchen to make for some level of enjoyment. I get that Monday evenings are quite in the first place, or maybe just a bad night? Sorry did not work for us, but at least we tried it.

My go to for a special occasion. Unique experience and better sushi for $165 than I've had for $600.

it's ok, i think i recommend more for going solo than taking your date here because you are eating inside the mall sitting outside it's kind of cramped. quality of food is pretty good but for the price and value it's more of a one-time only thing
