Ozumo is an exceptional restaurant that offers the best Japanese dining experience in San Francisco. If I were to describe my impression in one word, it would be "amazing."First and foremost, I must mention the quality of the food highly. The dishes I ordered were made with fresh ingredients and prepared using exquisite cooking techniques. The sushi, in particular, stood out with its remarkable freshness and deliciousness. I recommend the fatty tuna nigiri and the tempura shrimp.Furthermore, the service at Ozumo is outstanding. The staff is incredibly friendly and provided us with attentive hospitality tailored to our needs. They took the time to explain the dishes and offered suggestions for sake pairings. The ambiance of the restaurant is also exceptional. The modern interior design skill fully incorporates traditional Japanese elements, creating a serene atmosphere. At the counter seats, you can witness the skilled hands of the chefs and enjoy the experience of having fresh sushi prepared right in front of you.Overall, Ozumo is undoubtedly one of the finest Japanese restaurants in San Francisco. The quality of the food, the level of service, and the pleasant ambiance all contribute to an exceptional dining experience. I highly recommend visiting Ozumo. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also outstanding. The modern interior incorporates Japanese elements, creating a calm atmosphere. If you sit at the counter, you can watch the chef's work up close and enjoy fresh sushi right in front of your eyes.We hope that your desired translation will be helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Great spot for happy hour. The only reason it didn’t get a 5 is because we were ordering off the happy hour menu and our server was trying to push us to order from the regular menu that was double the price for similar dishes.

Overrated chu toro, otoro, and belly for $70. Their salmon roll use inferior materials made me want to throw up.

Convos too good to take photos lolOut of 2 cocktails, shrimp pork gyozas, hamachi small plate, tofu small plate, some sort of fish or tartare rice chips small plate, fatty tuna/scallop/uni, egg plant yasai, and black cod… the most surprising was the eggplant — it was sweet, slightly sugar coated thus a little crunchy/chewy. The best was the bluefin tuna haha it was sooo delicious. On the other hand, the black cod and the tarutaru was mediocre (can’t taste the ingredient to the tarutaru)Overall, everything, except sashimi/nigiri, was a little too salty. It’s definitely a “modern spin” to Japanese, as they advertise.Between their izakaya and sushi options, I personally liked their sushi a lot more. The cocktail Giddy Geisha was really delicious tho! What we ordered (9 items + sparkling water + 2 drinks) was the perfect amount for two. Neither of us eats that much so it’s pretty easy to spend a lot LOL

It’s hard writing this review. If Ozumo was a bar, I would give it 5 stars out of 5. The drinks are amazing, and the sake availability is better than many restaurants in SF.However, the food was so terrible that it completely ruined my experience. Japanese cuisine, Americanized, is just American raw fish with sauce. The food completely lost the Japanese culture emphasizing simplicity and natural flavor of top tier fish/meat/rice. My toro nigiri was not topped on sushi rice, and it didn’t even have a dash of wasabi in the center to help accentuate the flavor. The A5 wagyu was soaked in sauce that I couldn’t taste the tenderness of the wagyu itself. The nori didn’t smell of the ocean, and there was cheese sauce topped on shishito. The service was just as American and I had expected more from a restaurant advertising itself as Japanese in origin.

The food was amazing. Gyoza was great. The Bluefin Tuna Belly was exceptional and the cooked cod melted in your mouth. Service was great. Our waiter was friendly, provided good advice and was attentive but not hovering. Ozumo is definitely on our list of goto places in San Francisco.

the experience was just mehhh. Server took the order and never came back, we only saw him again to take our cards and get the tips. never got our water or tea refilled. they use farm raised fish for the sushi which I think it is not acceptable for the price you pay there. wouldnt come

Recently ate their last week and thought food was good. We spent spent a hundred dollars a person and to our astonishment saw a rat in the restaurant next to our table which the waitress saw too. Offered no discount and was even charged a health and safety fee of 6% on the total meal. Definitely not happy about

Came here for dinner and had a very nice experience. The fish was good quality and very fresh. We stuck to the traditional nigiri sushi for our main corse, the chutoro being our favorite. The kinko mushrooms and hanabi were nice appetizers also.
