Food is a-mazing, service extraordinary and they have such a good wine selection. We took our clients for a private dinner and we all enjoyed so much.!
Dietary restrictions: They ask for any intolerances or food sensitivities before serving

This was by far the worst tasting experience I’ve ever had. Out of eleven courses there wasn’t a single dish I’d ever want to eat again. No balance. Weird aftertastes. Rubbery textures. Was fish sauce part of every dish? I love seafood but this menu came close to turning me off of shellfish permanently.
I only ate a couple of bites from each course, but no one checked in with me to see whether I was enjoying (I obviously wasn’t).
Their wine pairing was equally sad. Nothing made sense, pours were scant. Seems they’re cleaning out inventory.
I learned during our meal they are going out of business. It’s apparent. If you have a reservation planned, I’d cancel.

You'll be missed.
Food was really subpar at this price point. I am not sure what I had and the whole tasting menu was over. Of course with the 20% service (she said included but she meant automatically added on top) + city tax, cheapest menu is $700+. This is enough to get a three star and most cities. While each dish’s execution was below even a recommendation. Try Sorrel and you get much better food at a deep discount.

An amazing special occasion place. We had the 11-course tasting menu with the🍸mocktail pairing. It was a delicious, delicate feast for the senses, complemented with extraordinarily gracious service. 1 star less for atmosphere as it was a little chilly where we sat and they couldn't adjust it. Overall, a wonderful evening.

Given Aphotic in San Francisco is closing down this year, I made a reservation and sat at the bar for the bar menu. The level of service from the bartenders who take the time to explain every ingredient in your drinks was noteworthy. I
Would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend. We had a lovely time.
+ $80 tuna and caviar hot dog was surprisingly the best item we ordered
+ Service (especially the bartenders
+ Ambiance
+ Custom non-alcoholic mocktails
- Price (but we did get 4 mocktails). There is SF mandate and 20% gratuity included.

I've been to about 10 Michelin star restaurants in sf. This was the best seafood Michelin star restaurant in sf I've been to. The chef is very Creative with their food combinations on his dishes and sauces. The dishes were well cooked as well. It was a unique experience and a work of art on my palate. The service and atmosphere was also amazing. I recommend coming here for an excellent meal.

Aphotic's bar menu is amazing! Love the seaweed salad and Campanelli. So sad they're closing soon. 😭

I don't like restaurants that don't respect the city, as you said: never invest in San Francisco, if you don't love the city then it's time to leave gracefully instead of accepting more than 900 reservations and launching the most expensive menu, which is ridiculous, and want to make a fortune before leaving

Restaurantji Recommends
For anyone selecting the Chef’s Counter experience, please know that the Chef will not make you a single dish and he will not speak a word to you. I don’t think that’s acceptable considering it’s the most expensive menu at the restaurant. The rest of the staff were kind and the decor is cool. Would not recommend or return.
We came to Aphotic to celebrate and treat our friends tonight but unfortunately, it was a huge opportunity missed for us and we left dazed, confused, and hungry.
Upon entrance, the interior is striking and the atmosphere is clearly something they spent a lot of time curating, which we appreciated. The cutlery and crystalware that they changed out between each course were also beautiful, as we can always appreciate finely crafted serveware.
However, things started to go awry once the first few courses were served. While some were absolutely delectable, the 11-course tasting menu spanned over 3+ hours. And of the 11, 6 were hors d'oeuvres, with 1 “palate cleansing” granita…? And this doesn’t even begin to cover that 3 of the last courses were desserts. The menu overall felt disjointed, as if it was crescendoing to nothingness. We also requested on couple occasions if they would be able to slightly pick up the pacing as we had other events to get to and could not be stuck eating dinner for many, many hours. We constantly looked over to the other tables next to us and noticed that they were also served at a glacial pace.
At an establishment such as Aphotic, good, flexible pacing is such a basic thing to expect, so you can imagine our disappointment when it fell flat. At the end of the night, we left with our mouths still craving more and the only topic of discussion was the tortuously long time between courses.

Ambiance and food was impressive. The thing that was disappointing for our group was pacing. Not sure if it was today or normally this way… and not sure if it’s intentional or not but the span of our dinner was nearly 3 hours. Most of the 11 courses were fairly light and so it was a lot of waiting in between, course to course. As much as we were among good company, I don’t think I’ve spent so much of a meal hungry and growing weary of waiting.
I hope it was due to an unforeseen circumstance and the service is more well-paced most days. It would be a terrible disappointment if this was intentional. I would hate to discover that such craft was delivered with that degree of grave pretension. God knows we don’t need more of that.

Best cocktail bar in San Francisco!
The bar staff here take their job seriously with research and in-house infusion experimentation. They deserve a Michelin star for the cocktails alone… but I know that’s all about the food.
The food is on another level like their cocktails. Genuine, creative, surprising but always fulfilling. Haven’t had a dish that didn’t wow me.
You also can’t forget how welcoming you feel at reception with Nathan. This place is a gem thanks to the people they have working here.
