Peasant Pies, Inner Sunset is one of San Francisco's great cheap eats. There is simple and zero ambience here, but it is clean and to the point, with a friendly smile on service. $6 gets a multitude of different pies from savory to sweet, meaty to vegan. The $6 Beef and potato pie is perhaps the pie here, with thick pastry dough that is soft and chewy, yet thick and dry to hold the hot warm fillings of tender melt in your mouth beef, soft potatoes, and veggies in a nice brown gravy. The $6 Chicken pie has chunks of tender moist white chicken meat, peas, carrots, celery, potatoes, onions, and a medley of herbs and spices. The most popular vegetarian pie is spinach/feta, and the most popular vegan pie is the garbanzo bean curry. The garbanzo bean curry pie is yummy and not too spicy. The apple crumble pie is the best apple pie ever, with just the right amount of sweetness and tartness from the filling complimented by the crunchy crust. The chocolate flan pie is also good and not sweet. Pies can be heated up and are perfectly sized to hold in your hand. There is some small table space inside but no outlets. The staff is friendly, thoughtful, and helpful.
