The specialty coffee was meh. It was just flavour syrup in americano and warm milk. The coffee itself is good and so would stick to normal latte. The bagel was great with a healthy serving of packaged cream cheese. This Castro location is rustic and the staff is friendly.

I really use to love going in this shop and feeling like I was spending money locally, but after the news of the acquisition of Phil'z coffee by a private equity firm, and the way that they really screwed over the employees that worked and gave their own money are not at all being treated like a family member anymore. I could just go to Starbucks if I want just another cup of coffee run by corporate greed.

I was in the Castro and craved a cup of hot chocolate, and Philz was right around the corner and right within my budget. Their hot chocolate isn’t my favorite, but they are in my top 10. I had a small hot chocolate with light sweetness and it met my expectations. The employees were so delightful, and I’m happy to see Philz support the people of the Castro district and its pride culture. It’s a really warm and welcoming place to grab a drink. Overall, 4/5.

Neat pour over cafe. No espresso machine here! Casual, good and some exotic coffees.
options are limited, drinks lack flavor, and the staff at their Castro location have a distinct attitude problem. The passive aggressive type🤢. I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this has been a consistent issue every time I visit. After my last experience, I won’t be coming back.

I went in this morning and tried the nutty caramel nirvana for the first time and it was so good! the barista was super sweet I think on the cup it said his name way Gordon, def made my morning :)
