Great food, drinks and staff!

We were in San Francisco the last week of October. Unfortunately, this restaurant along with several others did not make it through the pandemic and is shut down. The restaurant was completely boarded up. It was quite sad to it, along with other restaurants on the boardwalk that way.

"Ohhhh hayyyy! I never wrote a review for Pomeii's? How could" Was my pending review on Yelp before I saw that my beloved Pompei's had closedddddddd!!! What?! My BF turned prom date turned husband turned baby daddy used to hit up the old school Pompei's with the paper table covers, red plaid tables, dark wood walls, christmas lights year round deco, with old school oiled up tealights all the time! It was the best spot for some scallops, potatoes, and mushy veg!! And child, dont get me started on the lox app and bruschetta app! So good! Dang I'm sad I never got a chance to eat that again! It was a fine family establishment!

This restaurant along with three or four others on the waterfront did not make it through the pandemic and they have closed permanently their building is boarded up I was in San Francisco on July 6th 2021 a lot of the restaurants are not showing that they are closed advise to call ahead to see if your restaurant is still there

Fabulous food and service! We loved the calamari, clam chowder and everything else we ordered there

In a typical tourist place it is not a surprise to find over estimated prices to under estimated food - and Pompei's Grotto is no exception there. But to be honest (and I should be that on Tripadvisor) the total sum is not bad. The food and the service was better than expected and we got our fair share in a good lunch that day! Easy access to all the fun parts at the Fisherman's Wharf so why not??

Stopped by this place for a bite to eat with my family. The chowder special drew us in, and luckily it was quite tasty. Staff was friendly, but they did more people in duty. Overall a great lunch.

Pompei's Grotto is a clean and airy seafood restaurant smack dab in the middle of San Francisco's prime tourist destination Fisherman's Wharf. We just happened to come on a sunny Friday afternoon looking for a lunch destination that wasn't going to take too long as we had a place to go to afterwards and time was a must. We were intrigued with the menu that was presented in front of Pompei's Grotto, as many establishments on Jefferson Street tend to do, they have a huge menu posted at their entrance enticing curious diners to see what's good and affordable. We were sold thanks to mainly the cleanliness that the restaurant exhibited and the ease of location, which also must of accounted for a decent amount of people sitting out there in their front dining patio. It's easy to imagine a restaurant that looks like Pompei's Grotto in the middle of of a harbor in Nantucket or Cape Cod, it has that kind of New England sea faring vibe, with bright colors and a cool and classy nautical interior. I'm not exactly sure of the Pompei reference in the restaurant's name, but there were a handful to deliciously described Italian dishes on their menu, but the grotto names comes into play as they had a number of seafood dishes that no doubt plays into the fact that they are so centrally located along the water. My dining companion and I weren't too hungry and we knew we had to order fast if we were going to get through lunch in a timely manner so we decided to split two of their signature dishes. We went with their Pompei's Homemade Clam Chowder served in a Bread Bowl which cost $12.95 and the Fish & Chips, which featured two beer battered filets served on a bed of French Fries which cost $20.95. Service didn't take too long as the food came out within roughly fifteen minutes. The Clam Chowder was warm and hearty and was well worth the price, while the Fish & Chips although tasty didn't justify the rather exorbitant cost for the two small filets and french fries direct from the freezer and straight from the fryer. Surprisingly, I would actually consider returning to Pompei's, but for only one thing, Happy Hour as they serve beers, wines and well drinks for only 5 dollars and snacks like wings, fish tacos, mussels and fried calamari for only 7 dollars. But I'd also seriously consider all of the other options they have on Jefferson Street alone. This just goes to chow how competitive it is out here for restaurants like Pompei's Grotto and their many neighbors to survive. Because it's a fish eat fish world out there so to speak and we are all just guppies trying to figure out our next meal in one of the most visitor friendly cities in the world.

Service was a little slow but the food was good. Happy hour was a nice deal as well.

This is a perfect place fo sit outside and enjoy a beer or a glass of wine and people watch on the wharf.

Great seafood! If you come at lunch in the winter, they have a lunch special. You can buy clam chowder in a bread bowl for $6 and fish and chips for 7. Been here many times, and it is consistently good. Also the cheapest food on fisherman's wharf.

So meh and bland. Thought I'd lost the sense of taste. Was so relieved to read all of the other reviews here mentioning the absence of flavor in their food--though I wish I would have read them *before* I ate here.

We were also lured in by the 7 dollar crab bread bowl... it was decent chowder. Most of the comments are accurate as in the clams were scarce and mostly veggies in a white sauce. But it was flavorful. Also, we ended up purchasing the 13 dollar bowl because we were informed the deal was for a cup worth portion in the bowl. Needless to say, we still ended up with a cup sized portion, but for thirteen dollars instead. Just wow. Shoulda stuck with the deal because it wasnt worth going for the "larger size." I dont think we'll be coming back. If at all the bar would be the main event at this place.
