As a midwesterner, a straight from the docks seafood place like this is a dream. Completely blew our modest budget there and am SO glad I did. Chowder wasn't new England or Manhattan style but unique and superb.
Despite the long list of great restaurants in SF, I probably return to Popi's on my next visit.

We walked in as a party of 3 on a Friday night and was able to get seated. The food was pretty good, but the customer experience could’ve been improved:
1. They charge you an additional fee on top of your check to pay their staff a living wage so you end up having like 3 additional fees on your bill (tax, SF mandate, living wage)
2. The restaurant phone number is also manned by an AI so it was hard to get in contact with them after we left something at the restaurant

Early January 2026 Local oyster bar along busy Chestnut commercial district offers standard and seasonal seafood fare with just right serving sizes
The food is well prepared and quicky executed
Service staff is helpful and engaging
The place is relatively small and very limited but exudes as cozy and welcoming atmosphere
Ideal for small groups only

The oysters and clams were super fresh. The clam ceviche was very fresh as well, but next time I’d ask for the sauce on the side. The strozapreti crab pasta was amazing—the pasta was so chewy. The fish and chips were great too, and my son loved them. Corkage is $25, and they provide regular glasses since they don’t have wine glasses.

Stumbled into Popi’s Oysterette for a late lunch, not even hungry… and still couldn’t resist. The oysters were mouth-watering and impeccably fresh; the kind that make you pause after the first slurp.
Service was spot-on from the moment we sat down: warm, attentive, and genuinely proud of what they serve. The cozy, inviting ambiance sealed it. Soft buzz of conversation, relaxed Marina vibe, and a space that feels like a neighborhood secret you’re lucky to find.
We planned to “just try a couple” and ended up lingering over more oysters and sips, happily. If you’re in the Marina and craving top-tier oysters with friendly, polished hospitality, this is the spot. Hidden jewel, indeed.

The food was great, but I was disappointed by a 7% “SF HealthCare mandate” surcharge that appeared on the bill with no advance notice. At this price level, these costs should be built into the menu pricing rather than coming as a surprise at checkout. FYI, be sure to review your check carefully before paying!

Really great seafood lunch!! We sat at the bar and every dish they made looked so delish. We got the clam chowder, raw oysters, shrimp roll, and spritz (all amazing). Would love to go back and try the pasta dishes and hot poppi dish (seafood platter). Would definitely recommend.

Customer service is okay. The servers don’t check up on you, unless you ask them for something. This says a lot because my partner and I went during a slow day. The food was just okay, it had no flavor. The only “enjoyable” part is that you get to see the chefs cook the meal. I would not recommend this place!
The best clam chowder, the flavor was there!
I love calamari and I'm usually very judgy how its fried.
Calamari came out perfect! not over cooked, no excessive breading and crunchy,
Sour dough bread was toasted outside and soft inside with a side of butter. I ate the bread with the chowder bowl.
My experience was calming enjoyable setting inside the restaurant. Great for inside conversations. The theme is beautiful. It gave fancy sailor vibes. The beach photo really complements the space.

Head ownership has changed since I first dined here, but the food and service is still great! Unfortunately didn't get the name of our server (beautiful young Asian gal) and a her sidekick, but kudos to them for making our experience an awesome one.

Really enjoyed the cioppino (lots of seafood goodies) and the crab salad. Make reservations beforehand. Kind service as well. Music a bit loud.

Smaller more casual, SF version of Philadelphia’s Oyster House. Visited twice in 3 days on my vacation already. New fav beer! Fantastic food and great wait staff!
