This hotel exceeded my expectations! The staff was very professional, the rooms were spotless and the facilities were excellent. I highly recommend!
Had brunch at Villon. The hashbrowns were a win. Great staff, beautiful hotel.
First the location is very scary. Parking was $104 for a single night. When asked where we can park, they said there is high risk in the area for break-ins and they recommend a parking garage blocks away but you have to walk through the area. The second major issue was room service took almost 4 hours to deliver food. We called 3 times downstairs to see where the delay was because my pregnant wife and 2 year had nothing to eat from the long drive in. Order was placed at 6:20P and was not delivered until 9:40P after the final call inquiry. I normally add gratuity for a standard service but in this situation my wife and kid passed out for the night from waiting so long that they didn’t have dinner. I signed the slip with a line through the gratuity. The slip with my signature was in the amount for $74 but on my room charge it was showing $91.40. So there is already some issues there. When we checked out the receipt we received was for $39 for the destination tax etc. but later in the evening, my credit card company flagged a possible suspicious charge of $596. I tried calling them 4 times even having their corporate office send an email for the property manager to call back. But all efforts having been dodging my call. They said a speaker was taken but the rooms only have a TV and phone. We came in with a single backpack with our clothes for the 3 of us cause of the reviews about how scary the area is. There isn’t any way of packing all these things and a speaker into a single backpack. Their mini bar shows expensive items up to the range of $800 electronics. If high cost items are in the room, then they need to provide definitive proof that the item left the room through sensors or a thorough checkout with the client. Other proper hotels do not have these items. This is an unethical and fraudulent practice. WARNING NOT TO STAY HERE due to all these issues. I never post these kind of reviews and will be working with my credit card company to fight this practice and remove them from the premier collection so others do not fall for this trap.
I checked in and learned that the complimentary car service is no longer available. This was a deciding factor for staying at this hotel. This very inconvenient and frustrating. The car is still listed on your website.
Great hotel with great grestaurants
We loved our room as it was on the point of the triangular building. The decor was eclectic but well done. The room was large and well stocked. We enjoyed breakfast every morning as well as visiting the rooftop bar. It is true that the neighborhood was difficult to observe with all the homeless drifting about but we never felt unsafe. The doorman always was friendly and helpful. Ubers were easy to locate and we were close to the convention center where we attended a national architect’s conference.
Loved the Proper San Francisco. Rooms were super chic, super comfy, and well appointed. Roof top bar is perfect place for a night cap or place to spend the evening. Especially nice to be above the fray these days. Breakfast was delicious and such an enticing setting. The Proper was a great place for parents and our 20 year old and 15 year old! They thought the place was "lit"! Service was great all around. A special shout out to, Tuan, the bellman was incredibly helpful and made getting around the City so easy. I look forward to returning!
This property is amazing! From the moment we entered we were greeted with exceptional customer service by the bellman, Tuan. He was attentive, helpful, and very kind with the welcome champagne pour :) We had a great stay on property and visited the rooftop bar several times during our two night stay. The beds are EXTREMELY comfortable and the shower pressure was just perfect. We will be back!!
Great service, expensive valet parking, very nice rooftop bar/restaurant. Tough neighborhood. Could use better WiFi signage, but both Google and Apple casting to the TV are available, so that 's nice.
From check-in to restaurants / bar to maid service, it's very evident that this hotel takes hospitality quite serious. It evident at every conversation and touchpoint within the hotel. It's almost a lost art but this hotel has resurrected the art of hospitality.

The service at Proper is the best we’ve experienced. They went above and beyond to make our stay special. Tuan the bellman was very helpful, courteous, attentive and patient. The management staff were equally as attentive and courteous. The hotel has a beautiful aesthetic and we can’t wait to be back.
Amazing Hotel in a War Zone of an area Hotel is amazing - staff was great- design amazing, cool roof and good lobby coffee in morning. Have Champaign waiting for you at check in. Bad - not a fan of $36 amenity fee when no pool. Access to a car that is NEVER there? I stayed 4 nights and never used the car. Area- it’s a war zone is really only way to prepare you for mission/tenderloin. I was there 2022 and then now. It’s 100% worse and every night is a local meet up or 100s of homeless selling stolen goods and likely other stuff. No single women should be walking in this area alone. Note - I’m from NYC which has issues and San Fran said “hold my beer” when it’s come to homeless especially in the area around the hotel. And I love this hotel…and still likely will stay there again but it’s a shame around in the area and bigger then Proper to address.
Nice place, great rooftop, great service, the limo service is a plus, you can get a ride anywhere within 3 miles for free until 7hpm. The area at night is quite something but generally feel safe. San Francisco is a nice city to visit.
Lovely rooms, great restful lobby/lounge area to chill in. Rooftop bar is really cool and the staff are super nice. Big shout out to Tuan the bellman! He was really lovely and couldn't be more welcoming and helpful!
Not sure the music at the rooftop bar needs to be so loud it can be heard clearly inside all surrounding buildings... Anyone staying nearby, recommend bringing earplugs.
