We loved our room as it was on the point of the triangular building. The decor was eclectic but well done. The room was large and well stocked. We enjoyed breakfast every morning as well as visiting the rooftop bar. It is true that the neighborhood was difficult to observe with all the homeless drifting about but we never felt unsafe. The doorman always was friendly and helpful. Ubers were easy to locate and we were close to the convention center where we attended a national architect’s conference.

Loved the Proper San Francisco. Rooms were super chic, super comfy, and well appointed. Roof top bar is perfect place for a night cap or place to spend the evening. Especially nice to be above the fray these days. Breakfast was delicious and such an enticing setting. The Proper was a great place for parents and our 20 year old and 15 year old! They thought the place was "lit"! Service was great all around. A special shout out to, Tuan, the bellman was incredibly helpful and made getting around the City so easy. I look forward to returning!

This property is amazing! From the moment we entered we were greeted with exceptional customer service by the bellman, Tuan. He was attentive, helpful, and very kind with the welcome champagne pour :) We had a great stay on property and visited the rooftop bar several times during our two night stay. The beds are EXTREMELY comfortable and the shower pressure was just perfect. We will be back!!

From check-in to restaurants / bar to maid service, it's very evident that this hotel takes hospitality quite serious. It evident at every conversation and touchpoint within the hotel. It's almost a lost art but this hotel has resurrected the art of hospitality.

The service at Proper is the best we’ve experienced. They went above and beyond to make our stay special. Tuan the bellman was very helpful, courteous, attentive and patient. The management staff were equally as attentive and courteous. The hotel has a beautiful aesthetic and we can’t wait to be back.

Amazing Hotel in a War Zone of an area Hotel is amazing - staff was great- design amazing, cool roof and good lobby coffee in morning. Have Champaign waiting for you at check in. Bad - not a fan of $36 amenity fee when no pool. Access to a car that is NEVER there? I stayed 4 nights and never used the car. Area- it’s a war zone is really only way to prepare you for mission/tenderloin. I was there 2022 and then now. It’s 100% worse and every night is a local meet up or 100s of homeless selling stolen goods and likely other stuff. No single women should be walking in this area alone. Note - I’m from NYC which has issues and San Fran said “hold my beer” when it’s come to homeless especially in the area around the hotel. And I love this hotel…and still likely will stay there again but it’s a shame around in the area and bigger then Proper to address.

Nice place, great rooftop, great service, the limo service is a plus, you can get a ride anywhere within 3 miles for free until 7hpm. The area at night is quite something but generally feel safe. San Francisco is a nice city to visit.

Spectacular all around. Tuan, the bellman, was hilarious and took such great care of us. We stayed in a corner suite on and it was beautiful. Exceptional staff support for all in our group. Really loved the setup in the rooms. If you can grab a suite the views are killer. Rooftop was to die for.

Marriott members should stay away…and my hunch is most of the reviews for this hotel are paid for, as they seem to overlook the one thing that can’t be overlooked if you stay there, the location is beyond horrible. I would like to give this place a good rating, as the room was nice and the people at the hotel were nice, but that is where it ends. The Hotel is located in the Tenderloin district and so be ready to be accosted by people asking for money and people using drugs in the open. My daughter was so scared she would not leave the room. The room was nice, but the constant sound of police sirens and people screaming pretty much ruined any time in the room. As a Marriott Ambassador I hoped my status might get me something, but nope. They could care less about Marriott customers. They do not even show the hotels reviews on the Marriott website, and Marriott is powerless to help with a bad experience, and will just say they are a limited partner and only the hotel can help you. I was shocked that the Marriott app offers this Hotel as the 1st choice when searching San Francisco. It is not the cheapest, it is not the best, I guess it is the only one Marriott has trouble filling up, and I unfortunately know why…location, location, location.

Always go to Proper when I am in SF- but this time the best bellman ever was the kindest most helpful person ever. His name is Tuan and if he happens to help you are you are 100% good hands. So so kind and mega helpful.

We stayed at the Proper for three nights while visiting our son in San Francisco. As soon as we drove up we were greeted by a very kind and friendly valet parking attendant and felt very reassured. Next was the bellman who brought up our luggage, again a person with a big smile and helpful in every way. Our room was on the sixth floor, decorated nicely, and our expansive view was nice. We loved the comfy bed. excellent pillows and all the accommodations that came with the room especially the well stocked refrigerator and the bar. The choices were truly endless and the prices are listed on a menu on the nightstand. We had dinner at Villon which was utterly fantastic. Besides the food being incredibly delicious, the waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings. He was able to discern what we would like to eat and drink by describing each dish in detail. We enjoyed our meal immensely. Even Robyn the manager inquired as to our well being at the restaurant. The attention to detail was obvious in every course and plate. Everyone was very satisfied when we took our party upstairs to Charmaine's and couldn't believe the amazing view! You can see Salesforce Tower all lit up and the surrounding city. We met Kingston, who came over and introduced himself as the manager of Charmaine's. He was extremely approachable and made sure all of our needs were met. It was hard to top dinner but the views and drinks afterward at Charmaine's sure came close! What was hard to believe was that every single person who helped or took care of us in any way at the hotel was so professional, helpful, and accommodating. Each took the time to inquire about our hotel experience and to not hesitate to let them know if we needed anything. We will definitely be staying at the Proper again when traveling to San Francisco. Thank you for making sure we had such a great trip!

What a beautiful property!!!! We came to the city for my birthday and so glad we stayed here. Tuan, the best door man EVER will literally make you feel like royalty the second you walk in the door to the time you leave. I would come back just for Tuan!!!
