Quieter and quainter than the other bars on the street... and providing a relaxing atmosphere and a place for some friendly conversation with fellow patrons and the owners, who know the neighborhood well. Several, delicious small bites, including multiple European and other cheeses, are available to order. A gem in the West Portal neighborhood, to spend the afternoon or entire evening at, or to visit for a few drinks before or after dinner!Table seating, lounge-like sofa seating, or seating at the bar/counter, make for a variety of experiences.If you're a beer-drinker accompanying a wine-lover, they have a few great bottled beers too. You could take home wines from here for very reasonable prices.It is also useful to register for e-mail notification, as they send out lists of new wines, wines that they deliver to the neighborhood, and events.

Quaint little wine bar located in the center of West Portal Village. Excellent selection of bespoke wines that are personally selected by Sam and Stephanie, the owners for their customers, and I must say their palates are tuned well and match my personal expectations. More for the over 40s/50s, and the presence of regulars that frequent this delightful little place show it's popularity with those who live in and around the neighborhood. Try it out sometime, you won't regret it. And by the way Stef does a delightful charcuterie with some rare cold cuts and cheeses, that open up the palate well for those looking for a pleasant evening experience. Highly recommended.

This review is long overdue. Que Syrah is a little gem nestled in the middle of West Portal Ave, just down from the hustle and bustle of the busier restaurant block. It's the perfect place for a glass of wine before or after dinner, although they have a terrific charcuterie plate and loads of delicious cheese if you are just out and about, looking for a calm oasis after a long day. The space is surprising large, but the layout feels intimate with soft couches, tables for 2 or more, a fireplace and a cozy table in the window to watch life drift by. Or, just grab a seat at the bar and chat with some of the friendly locals. I must confess to being rather ill-informed about wine, so it's terrific that Stephanie and Keith (owners) will go over their menu and explain varientals, vineyards, and, well everything wine! They will ensure you find something to enjoy. I believe they curate from local vineyards weekly and my friends always love the taster flights. So, if you want a cozy intimate spot, great wines, and owners who really love sharing their experience and hospitality, do yourself a favor and drop in. It's the best wine bar in the area.

My husband and I were waiting for Chinese takeout up the street, and came across this wine bar. I'm not sure how he found it, as it's a tiny little spot that you can easily miss walking by on West Portal. Glad we found it! It was a perfect place to kill time and also enjoy some wine. I got a glass of Zinfandel, which was safe but good. They have a good selection of wines, suiting for whatever you feel like at that moment in time! Service is great. The ambiance is what will have me coming back. It's super cozy inside, charming, and relaxing. It's a great way to catch up with your significant other after a busy day, or an intimate setting with a friend you haven't seen in a while. It's quiet, but with a few other parties in there, so it doesn't feel desolate. There are cute tables, bar seating, and a couch with mini fireplace! Can't wait to return.
