Breakfast was basic and over priced. I got the avocado toast with eggs and fruit. I didn't expect to receive a whole avocado placed on dry wheat toast, no salt or lime juice or really anything. No butter or cream cheese on the toast. Just plain avocado. The eggs were not seasoned either. Plain eggs. I paid $27 for an avocado, a slice of bread, and 2 unseasoned eggs. Pretty disappointing. There are cheaper and better tasting options elsewhere.

Good food, good service. Just a bit overpriced.

Portions are big enough to share. Meals include juice, fruit and coffee. The waitstaff are pleasant, courteous, and efficient.

This restaurant was in the lobby of my hotel, the Orchard Gardens. I was surprised the were not open at check in, but it seems they are only open 6a-10a weekdays and 7a-10a on weekends. Which would explain that. The price is very expensive. An American breakfast $20, French Toast $16, Oatmeal $14, you get the idea. If you wanted room service, it was additional delivery fee + 20% something or another. That is insane. The food was decent, service slow for having little to no customers the few times we ate there in the a.m. for lack of early bird options within walking distance. They also do not have any cola.... Pepsi/Coke so it was juice, coffee, water, or booze. I would recommend that anyone in need of a breakfast and staying in this hotel on weekends, just go down the block to Target and pick up some stuff there and put it in the fridge in your room (banana, yogurt, etc) as it is incredibly cheaper and probably better than you would get here. To be fair, the food is not bad necessarily. The service slow and sticker shock compared to what other hotels would charge for the same thing. That said, if you are in need of a meal early in the a.m., there are not a lot of options unless you can get by on McDonalds around the corner or Starbucks across the street. We simply needed a bigger breakfast as we were doing a lot of walking and sight seeing.

I had a breakfast burrito with turkey sausage. In all of my travel, I have not had a breakfast burrito sooooo good. I did not want to go back the next day for fear it would ruin my feelings of the cook.

Convenient when staying at The Orchard Garden. I was pleased with how tasty the food was and would eat there even if I wasn't staying at the hotel but was in the area.

Took breakfast in Roots during a short stay at the Orchard Garden Hotel. Very attentive waiter served us some well presented food offering us all the options available with our selection. Worth a visit. Didn't get chance to try lunch or dinner due to our schedule.

Hidden gem. The waitress was so nice and talked to us while our food was coming. The waitress suggested a vegetable soup after my mom asked. The chef made us a delicious vegetarian soup along with the other yummy food we ordered. Definitely recommend!

We had discovered Roots years ago, then forgot about it. It came up on Living Social and we rediscovered this wonderful, little -- and hidden -- restaurant. It is inside a common door with the Orchard Hotel. But don't let that fool you -- it is a WONDERFUL little restaurant. Unfortunately, we were in a hurry when we went, but they came through in a timely manner so that we could make our theatre on time. We ordered hot olives and a Chinese eggplant dish for appetizers. Both good. Then my wife ordered short ribs, which came with a delicious polenta, and, of course, without the bones. I ordered a Kobe beef burger, which came with french fries -- crispy as requested. The short ribs beef was really wonderful and tender. My Kobe burger was a perfect medium-rare -- as ordered -- and the fries were delicious. The total bill, including wine and a Manhattan, was just $60. Would we go back? YOU BET! Even in this beautiful, metropolitan city that is loaded with outstanding restaurants, ROOTS is a wonderful little hidden-away restaurant with delicious food and good service that is worth the effort to find.

Just got back from Happy Hour. This is the worst food I have ever eaten in San Francisco. We had the Chicken wings which I wouldn't have recognized if I hadn't ordered them. The Ribs we ordered had no bones and were gelatinous. Do not waste your time or money on this Happy Hour. We should have taken the empty restaurant as a sign.
