Used to go to Rose's Cafe regularly when I worked in the city. Hadn't been in quite a few years but recently went back as my husband and I always used to have great meals there. I am sad to say that the food quality has really declined. The pasta that I ordered was so far from al dente that it was a soggy mess, although you could see hints of their former glory in the sauce, which was very tasty. Because we used to love the restaurant, I just didn't have the heart to complain about it. The service was as pleasant as it has always been, but the food was definitely geared toward the loyal patrons of post-retirement age who come here seemingly regularly. Everything was just a bit off to consider it delicious -- over cooked, or over dressed, or under seasoned, or under cooked. We had the bruschetta, margherita pizza, seasonal pasta with parmigiano and asparagus, pasta bolognese, and a side of broccoli rabe. Maybe we went on an off day, but really think twice before going back.

I didn't really enjoy my experience. The food was fine. The service was terrible and it took almost an hour for our entrees to come out. If you're going to go, order simple and get the margarita pizza and the chopped salad.

Rose's Cafe is one of the best places in SF - Cow Hollow but a quieter end of Union St , it's a favorite for locals from The neighborhood. Fantastic home made pasta dishes, fresh salads, crispy thin crust wood fired pizzas and amazing Chocollate cake - YES !!! Love the ambience and staff are perfection. Already looking forward to going again...

Update: Since my last visit, the service, cleanliness and overall atmosphere has been great. Thank you for very much for the great times and amazing food.
Food is great, latte is over the top sweet. The breakfast hash is great, we come back on the regular for this. The booth couches are a place to avoid, you can literally feel the spring coils ripping through material and assaulting you like you an unwanted city tax. The service is beyond shocking, they rarely clean the tables or chairs, we got there first thing in the morning as they opened and had to wipe down the chairs that had accumulated food from the night before. Wait staff have no time or training to even engage with customers in small chit chat, it's basically a transaction to them and nothing else.
Overall, great food, terrible service, terrible atmosphere. Management need to spend more money on refurbishing and making the place feel like a great corner cafe instead of the run down cash cow that it is.
