This is large Safeway with more shelf space for a better than most selection.

This is for the grocery delivery that comes from this location. They have a driver, Richard Moll, an older white man, who NEVER WEARS A MASK AND COUGHS ON GROCERIES HE IS HANDLING. He is one of those people who wears the mask under the chin. He has never pulled it up over his mouth and nose. So his whole face is showing. He will start grunting and coughing as he brings the cart of groceries out of the truck and onto the ground. As his head is over the groceries he either grunts or coughs or both. W.T.F. Then he will bring groceries to my front door coughing and grunting as he is hovering over the FOOD and my front door space. So aerosols are lingering out my door ready to get in contact with my face unless it's very windy. He will hover as he arranges the groceries and then go through each bag to check. So he's coughing into the bags. This is really upsetting I made anonymous complaints in fear of his retaliation, but also so that he doesn't make sure to cover his nose and mouth WITH A MASK only at my place but still putting others at possible harm, yet he still arrives and does this every time. This has got to stop. The elderly man living with me gets nervous about not going to the door right away and will open the door too soon even if I tell him to wait. But we shouldn't have to wait for the air to clear in front out our home and then have to disinfect the grocery packages or remove the packages from each item. Safeway LaPlaya management- take my complaint seriously as you are sending a biological weapon with people's grocery deliveries and it must stop immediately.

I have used this store for years , it tends to be stocked and it's not a bad option if you follow the sales , and clip your online coupons. I have never had an issue with the staff or quality of the bakery items. They have even taken steps to keep the road behind the store clear of tents. That said a few warnings , Due to San Francisco and California laws we have a homeless problem this makes the upkeep of public toilets impossible. Regarding the Depts , I would avoid the Fresh Fish given they sell very little here and it's not always iced. As for the Deli the fried items seem to be cooked in oil that is not clean or fresh. I would suggest avoiding these 2 departments.

This place desperately needs some competition. Which reminds me: a new farmers market in outer sunset on Sunday.... purchase your produce their and not at this mega slow, crowded, unkept, over priced, poorly stocked has been of a Safeway. And have a great day.

You know you're in a quarantine rabbit-hole of boredom when you're reviewing a Safeway on Yelp. Anyways, I miss the days when they were open 24 hours. Overall though, solid Safeway with nice staff. The bathroom is notorious for smelling absolutely terrible, which makes sense considering it's right next to the fish station (surprise: raw fish and sh*t are not the most pleasant combo). Even with it's faults though, i can't help but kind of love this Safeway.

This place is pretty huge! Much bigger than the one closer to home. I appreciate the wider selection of products. It's conveniently located near ocean beach which comes in handy when you forget that something or just need a quick snack before heading back. I appreciate that the store has arrows on the floor in the aisles to help you navigate to social distance however I find it a little hard because so many don't pay attention to them. Makes it challenging to comply. To each their own I suppose. At least the lines out the door wrapping around the stores aren't that much of a thing anymore. Until next time. Cheers.

There are 4 locations relatively close to me. This one is the farthest. Except for the grouchy guy in the deli, the staff at the registers and in the aisles have been pleasant, even fun at times. I'm amazed their spirit hasn't been dampened by the pressures that could be attributed to COVID-19. I do agree people are ignoring the one-way aisle configuration. Wish they would respect it, again.P.S. The rest of the deli staff is included in the overall review.

The most disgusting public bathroom I have visited in a long time, and I say that as someone who's used bathrooms and porta potties at countless festivals, concerts and clubs full of intoxicated people. This bathroom was a horror show. Dirty puddles of water of various sizes, wet used toilet paper and unidentifiable filth all over the floor and the toilet. No soap, no paper towels. The tip of the faucet ripped off half-way, so the water kept running and could not be turned off. In times of Covid, it is disturbing to see this level of filth at a store that sells food. There was a huge line to use the bathroom. A Safeway employee stood in line to use it as well. How gross to think that the employee might touch something in the store that will later be picked up by a customer. This Safeway needs a visit from the department of public health. Bathrooms say a lot about an establishment, so I wonder what else is going on in that store.

I come here for convenience. The prices are not bad if you utilize the Just for U program. The worst is the homeless encampment along the wall of their parking lot of 48th Avenue. They have so much litter it takes up the whole sidewalk and spills out into the street. It also attracts many unsavory characters. I understand SIP but for the safety of the neighborhood and general cleanliness. I have to give Safeway La Playa a bad review

PLEASE start telling customers over the speakers to OBSERVE the new (old) PANDEMIC RULES! Just record it and play it on repeat: AISLES are ONE-WAY!!! Pandemic is not over.

I've been to any Safeway as the first supermarket several years ago. The only Safeway I haven't gone to shop was in La Playa St, which was one block close to Ocean Beach (reminded me of the one near Fort Mason towards the sea, with several boats parked there).Though there has never been a huge even during our arrival, us shoppers and staff members must be 6 ft apart while face masks are absolutely mandatory. The rest looked as normal as always. While Safeway continue to have some good organic produce, my family would buy what's essential. It's good to shop at Safeway before and after the pleasant view of the vast ocean.

I always liked Safeway! They have almost everything I need and they good have good deals too. Today, I came across this lady at the counter DEBRA, she was soooo rude and not nice at all!!! I wish Safeway will teach their employees to be a little nicer and respectful. Thanks!

Bad bad bad safeway ever. I would give 0 star if I can. I order online pick up and got a massage it is ready. I have been standing at the customer service for half an hour with few employees asking my name and came back saying he forgot my order. The manager came to say sorry and she didn't hear the calls (the other employee called the dept 3 times)... well no more for this branch

Blatant violation of Americans with Disabilities Act. My 7 year old step son with special needs and severe asthma was refused entry to the store today because he cannot wear a mask. My sister was with me and her 6 year old daughter was refused entry also. My niece was sobbing because she just woke up from the car drive and is scared of masks. We only complied because we were visiting the store from out of town and they closed in 15 minutes (and we had waited in line for quite some time to even get to the check point) and our children were hungry. The security guard even had the nerve to get in my brother in laws face over his daughter sobbing about having to wear a mask! I understand the new rules, I can even understand Safeway employees having a rough day and running out of patience at closing BUT, what makes you think you can ignore one LAW to enforce another? When exactly did Safeway decide to throw out common decency to young children and families of all people?! When did wearing a mask (which is downright dangerous for a young child with severe asthma) suddenly become more important than protecting an individual with disabilities?! I am absolutely appalled at the representation of your company and the refusal to request a manager. How do you people even sleep at night? Your snotty condescending and downright hateful attitude towards young children is appalling. Obviously, we will NEVER return. I don't think I will step foot in another Safeway again after today.
