I absolutely love Sam's. The food and drinks are delicious. The seafood is top notch. The ambience is fantastic. It is definitely one of my very favorite restaurants in San Francisco.

Opentable Diner

Everything is the same as the first time I went 70 years ago and the thousand times since Perfect. Besides tadich which is a close but different second. It's the only one left.

Sam's chowder was excellent as was the shrimp scampi. The calamari also was good. Service great.

Exactly what I wanted in my noght out with a good friend I hadn't seen in a while. Food was escellent, servuce was cordial, attentive but not hurried. Andrea was very personable. The hostess went out of her way to take our picture when we were leaving. A perfect dining experience.

Went on a Friday night with a reservation for an anniversary celebration. Nothing special was done to note the occasion so I was a little disappointed. Service was okay but not outstanding—they forgot my iced tea and we had to ask for water. They were out of clams so we were disappointed to not get to try them. The entree serving of mussels could have been larger and is larger at local French restaurants; however, the seafood was fresh and the grilled octopus was cooked perfectly. The espresso cheesecake was so light and delicious. We sat in a little booth which gave it an old San Francisco feel and overall the experience was good and the food was solid. We would go back for seafood but not for a special occasion.

Went to Sam's Grill tonight, a long-standing restaurant in San Francisco. Fish is their specialty. I was not disappointed. I asked the waiter if I should order the lobster risotto or fish and chips. The waiter did not upsell, which impressed me. The fish was fresh and the batter was thin and crispy. The chips were good and the coleslaw was fresh.

As expected , topnotch seafood, wonderful staff! A San Francisco classic, it never disappoints!

A classic well-oiled machine filled with old world charm and perfectly executed food. Pictured is a perfectly crisp Louis salad with bay shrimp (3oz) and, for (lunch) dessert, sugar and lemon crepes which harken back to an era of delightful but simple pleasures. For those in need of a measure of privacy, there is a plentiful supply of private booths.

Extremely disappointed about this place. This place used to be good. The waiter was extremely rude. The food was disgusting. It was actually awful. The food was past it's due date, and that is dangerous.

I got so sick after eating here.

We found this restaurant on Google while looking for something close to our hotel. From the outside, the restaurant didn’t stand out, but inside, it’s so comfortable, and the food is incredibly delicious! The fish is outstanding! Thank you for your love of cooking.

Delicious range of seafood choices. The restaurant has these compartments that are like semi private rooms. Really liked the vibe here. Wanted to come back to try other dishes.

We visited SF and read about this place as a landmark seafood restaurant - if you like seafood and like to explore more nostalgic places, I would highly recommend Sam's! It is apparently the 5th oldest restaurant in the US!

It is definitely old-school- smaller than I expected, waitstaff in tuxedos, a somewhat limited menu by today's standards, but they stick do what they do well.

Waitstaff were great, attentive, cracking jokes, and gave helpful recommendations.

The food is the reason you go, and it was excellent! We had the petrale sole and the branzino, and both were cooked to perfection, moist and flaky. I had the branzino and I was expecting a bit more seasoning, but I should have known better because it is grilled whole and then they filet it at the table. The waiter suggested some chili oil with it....and that was fantastic. We had the peach and blueberry crisp dessert, and it was excellent - not a sugar bomb, great fruit flavor, and a hint of herbal flavor. Excellent.

I would highly recommend Sam's!
