Fish was fresh and delicious. There was a slight wait as the restaurant was very popular. This restaurant does not require tipping.
Saru is among the best sushi restaurants in Northern California and beyond. I have eaten at some of the finest sushi restaurants in California and Saru is at the top. They have an excellent selection of fish and their presentation is simple and authentic. The service is excellent. I have never had an experience that was below expectation.

My favorite sushi spot in SF! Everything is very good and for a fair price. Always good service and nice people.
The food here is so good. I will give 6 stars if I can
It’s an intimate space but amazing service and food! We waited a bit but they brought out complimentary tea for us while we waited for our table. Tips are included in the price and they even reinforce additional tips aren’t necessary when you pay which I thought was refreshing.
Oh my God! That describes Sarah Sushi bar. Since I’ve visited Japan, I found it very difficult to find good or great sushi. This place has both. And their service, they provide detailed information with a friendly demeanor. The food was unique and the fish exceptionally fresh. The sake was divine. It’s a small place so you wait, but it’s worth every minute. I don’t live in San Francisco, but now I can tell you every time I’m there Sara sushi bar will be my first stop. Kudos to your brilliance.
We are so lucky Saru is a 5 minute walk from us. The sushi is so fresh and it's so nice and cozy inside. Makes you feel like you are eating in Japan.
Excellent sushi and interesting dishes, felt like a top Hong Kong sushi place!!
Highly recommend!!
Excellent service as well..
Very good Sushi, super fresh and friendly service. They have gone to a strange tipping method that just is not logical (for me). Having a price on the menu and then having every item be 20% more on the bill is confusing. I am fine with an automatic tip, but just have it be something listed on the end of the bill as mandatory. It will be more clear for all and avoids awkward interactions.
Saru hits the mark for what you would expect SF sushi to be like - excellent. The fish is FRESH, rich in flavor, and soft as butter. The tiny space is clean, well decorated with authentic beautiful Japanese plates and serving pieces. And the staff is working hard as a team to take great care of everyone.

Restaurantji Recommends
Been wanting to try Saru for some time now and finally decided to go during the weekday. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30 and there was already a line waiting outside the restaurant. Would recommend coming a little bit earlier so you can get in during the first seating.
The fishes are very fresh. The nigiri are well seasoned and no need to dip the soy sauce. The quality is pretty similar to some restaurant in Japan.

Amazing experience, probably one of the best sushis I ever had, high quality and fresh. We sat at the bar and tried omakaze.

Loved this little gem! It really feels like a restaurant in Tokyo. Once you go out, you are surprised to see that you are still in SF ?
