We had the best dinner at Saru Handroll Bar in SF. Every person that worked there was friendly and attentive. The food was so fresh and delicious! I would highly recommend going there!

takeout was cute but rice was a bit hard and the pieces quite mini.

I love a good hand roll, and theirs isn’t bad. However, the prices are on the high side while their overall quality is more of an average mid range sushi restaurant. I would rather spend my money elsewhere.

Spent about $75 dining solo and left remembering the service more than the food.

Some of my hand rolls arrived before I had even started on my appetizer. Before the full order had arrived, I was asked multiple times whether I wanted to order more, including while I was actively eating.

A staff member poured my Diet Coke without asking. Later, after my card had already been run and the check closed, another employee attempted to charge the same card again.

The food was fine. What I remember is the constant interruption and having to make sure my card wasn’t charged twice.

Everything is great BUT the music. Needs to be improved. I suspect that’s why the reviews aren’t higher

The rolls were overwhelmingly salty, to the point where I had to drink several glasses of water afterward. Whether it was excessive seasoning or MSG, the flavor was completely unbalanced and overwhelmed everything else.

The fish-to-rice ratio was also terrible. Most of the rolls were packed with rice and contained very little fish, making them all taste virtually the same. It was difficult to tell one roll from another because there was so little distinctive flavor in any of them.

What made it even worse was the price. The food is outrageously expensive for what you get. You’re essentially paying premium prices for oversized rice rolls with minimal fish and mediocre quality.

The service was slow, inattentive, and far from welcoming. Since tipping isn’t required, it felt like no one had any incentive to provide decent service. Yet with prices this high, the service charge is clearly built into the menu prices, so there really is no excuse.

Overall, this was one of the most disappointing sushi experiences I’ve had. Overpriced food, poor execution, and lackluster service. I won’t be returning.

I've been a regular at Saru Hand Rolls for a while, and the food is always a 10/10 hit. My favorites are the eel and spicy scallop. Absolutely delicious as well as excellent and fast service.

But what happened tonight was next-level hospitality. I realized after leaving that I accidentally left my retainer on the table. I went back to check if it was still there, but it wasn't of course—thrown away during table clean up. As I was leaving, Christian (a staff member at Saru) literally chased me down the street, told me to come back, and went to dig through the trash for five minutes. He found it, washed it, and gave it back to me (I washed the retainer thoroughly after as well of course).

Shoutout to Christian for going completely above and beyond, and to Kevin who was super welcoming and chatted with me during my dumbfoundedness at Christian’s unreasonable hospitality.

Best service (and hand rolls) in SF, hands down.

Went here for the first time with my boyfriend to celebrate our 5th year anniversary! Yes, the hand rolls are amazing (seriously - still thinking about the fatty tuna 🫦). Yes, the space is cute and the bathroom is stocked with generous goodies. The real treat and the reason we’ll be back again and again is the staff and service! We felt so special. Shout out to Karen! Thank you for a great dinner. Can’t wait for our next visit 🍣🍶

P.s. the matcha sake definitely needs to be added to the menu!

To order you need reception for your phone. There is no reception on my phone. I looked for WiFi but didn’t see it. Too much work. Not worth the effort. You should make it easy on your customers…not harder. I left. The food might be good? Don’t know?

Wow. I can’t believe they only get 4 stars on here! Disagree. I can’t stop going there. Lunch. Dinner. Birthdays. Anniversaries. It’s so darned good! Music is always perfect. Vibe is refreshingly different. Staff always recognizes us and greets us with warm smiles and welcomes. Would highly recommend… but almost didn’t want to say so in order to keep the line as short as possible!
