Ive been eating at Shalimar for 27 years-I have eaten 100 if not 1000s of Indian places globally including NY LA UK DE GE etc. THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE. I had it tonight and sometimes its like how can it get better than that one time and then it is. The Tikka is unique and 1000% its own recipe apart from any I have ever found. Its simple but mega flavor, not overtly creamy a little oily but it the Tikka I compare all others too. Now I have had Indonesian that dresses up dishes like no other but for straight up dishes its the jam. Also the oven baked tandooris are over the top good too. Too bad Im moving finally from SF. This place is very much a part of me and my history, all the old times with friends (even the old Polk location)....all the conversations with staff, so friendly and nice. It will be missed!

When I need Indian food, it has to be Shalimar. I always get the chicken tikka masala, their butter & garlic naan, and the chicken biryani rice, but you can't go wrong with any of their spinach dishes or their chicken tandoori. I love them for their affordable dishes, appropriate portions, and their hole-in-the-wall dining room that makes you feel like you're part of the family.

We were at SFO dropping somebody and found this place online open late night. Paid 25 for private parking.
I don't want to diss on them too much but for sure I will not go back for lot of reasons.

I often order food from this restaurant for myself while also working as a Dasher. Recently, I received an order through DoorDash, and when I went to pick it up, I noticed that the employees at this restaurant were not helpful at all. Even after the food was ready, the way the Indian employees handed it over was very unprofessional. They also do not seem to know how to communicate respectfully with customers. The way they treat online customers is extremely poor, and that is why I felt the need to write this review. If this review reaches the manager, I kindly request that the employees be trained on how to properly speak and behave with customers.👎👎👎

I recently ordered from Shalimar Restaurant and was extremely disappointed with my experience. I ordered the following items:

- Chicken Karahi - $15.00
- Kabli Channa - $9.95
- Garlic Naan - $4.00
- Aloo Paratha Delhvi - $4.00

The subtotal came to over $59, but to my dismay, I never received the Garlic Naan and Aloo Paratha Delhvi. It’s frustrating to pay for something and not receive it.

To make matters worse, the Chicken Karahi had an awful smell, like it was old or spoiled food. This was not the quality I expected. Overall, my experience was disappointing, and I won’t be returning.

Are the food and safety department actually visiting this restaurant? If not, it raises concerns that Shalimar Restaurant may have someone paying off the food and safety department to avoid inspections, allowing them to operate without accountability and putting people's lives at risk.

This is not a hard one to write a fair review for. The restaurant is located in Tenderloin so there is that (if you don’t know what tenderloin is, just google it).

That is outside the restaurant so not in their control, however inside of the restaurant very much is:

- it’s dirty. And I mean DIRTY. Filthy perhaps is a better word for it. Grease, hair, very old food and much more.
- the kitchen is open so you see the horror show up front. Uncovered and unrefrigerated food in dirty container is on full display. The staff don’t look much better either.
- the food is not good. And I don’t mean it in a subjective way. Re-grilling a tiny piece of chicken wing cannot be justified in any place, no matter what the price. Given the expansive menu and the total ignorance of hygiene at display, I can see how many of the dishes are heated and reheated the next day and the day after.
- service: non-existent but that’s not a deal breaker for me. It’s not a place to look for service.

It’s cheap though. I guess you’ll pay the difference in doctor fees.

0 frills, 100 flavor. Come to Shalimar to see the light of the clay oven.

You can tell it’s not gentrified bc they don’t ask you what spice level you want (food was not too spicy though)

Amazing food and service. Nehari. Kabab. Nan. Tea. Tea is free 😊. Highly recommended. Usually it doesn’t show up on the uber ear or on the google search so search with name and street name and city name.
