Some of the best vegan breakfast from a non vegan resultant. The vegan mess is amazing I subbed the chorizo for the vegan sausage and it was delicious. The fries are good and the pancakes are amazing too! Love this place. They even have vegan English muffins and vegan butter. Updated from previous review on 2025-04-07
Came in on a busy Saturday afternoon. Even though they were busy, staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the “vegan potato thing.” Flavorful and the cheese was melty. I liked this dish. Returned the next day and ordered The Vegan Mess tofu scramble. This is a great place to go for vegan brunch options. Updated from previous review on 2025-03-30
Diner food with a lot of vegan options such as pancakes, tofu scramble, hamburgers, milkshakes, and much more. Has also been open for 106 years so support your local legacy business!
One of the most stellar vegan friendly breakfast spots in The

Great food, really cute, and they were able to make things gluten-free for someone with celiac disease. Thank you Ronnie for being so accommodating and nice!

If you are hungover and you go here, the probability is very high you will feel better. They advertise that they offer hearty breakfasts and by hearty, they mean greasy. But it's a delicious kind of greasy.
They have an anxiety-inducing array of choices for breakfast, with every possible permutation of a scramble. I say go big every time and get the Chef's Mess, it's basically a superset of every ingredient possible like eggs, bacon, potatoes, sour cream, cheese, etc. It's essentially breakfast nachos.
Service is spotty, the decor lacking, and the waits can be a little long but again, if you're hungover and want an effective remedy, this is the place for you.

Always go for lunch when visiting friends in the Mission. Chicken soup is best I've had. Great chocolate malts. never been disappointed in anything I've ordered.. only negative is that leg room in booths is cramped if you're tall. but worth it for the ambiance!

Old-school diner in a cool part of town. Seems to be popular for breakfast and brunch, but they also have some good vegan lunch options. The pancakes and the seitan cheese sandwich I had were very tasty.
Incredibly slow service from taking your order, to filling water, to actually delivering the food. Overall, the food was decent for a brunch spot.

Food was good, but there were two small things that made it feel a little bit less than hygienic. Our waitress carried the cups for our water by the rim of them, and I saw a big fat thumbprint on my otherwise clean knife. A little off-putting, but good otherwise.

90% sure i got food poisoning here sunday morning 06/09/2024. Anyone else? I worry it was from the over easy egg. My dining mate and I both got it BAD.

For all the food diversity in San Francisco, there aren't a lot of diners. Thankfully there is the St Francis Fountain in The Mission.

The pancakes are really good: soft and tasty!
Entering the restaurant it feels like being catapulted into the 60s: a truly fun experience.
The managers are kind and nice.
