Easily the best (and most disgusting) bagel shop on polk street! years ago I came in for a breakfast bagel, the lady was mopping the floor. She stopped what she was doing, took my order and cash, got change, and proceeded to make the bagel. Halfway through she cut her finger opening a pack of cheese with a knife, looked at the wound, and proceeded to make my bagel. I ate it anyway. It was delicious! Thank you! I'll be back.

Can't tell you how the bagels are because I never made it past the rude older Asian lady with short hair behind the counter. As others have mentioned, she has TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
I ordered a Lox Sandwich on a Plain Bagel with smear, onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Pretty standard order at most bagel shops. She slapped so little smear on my bagel that that it didn't even cover 3/4s of it then got upset when I asked for more. She got upset when I reminded her about the cucumbers and yelled at me that they were out. And then she put the tiniest little piece of salmon on the bagel and again fussed when I asked if it was possible to get even a tiny bit more. So now I'm paying full price for a sandwich which doesn't even have half of what it comes with and I'm being yelled at like a kid.
I agreed to pay for it and that I just probably won't come back and that's okay, but then she started ranting and taking the sandwich apart so I left.

Stopped by after we were done with Chase, and the smoked salmon bagel (lox) was so good! My mom kept saying she wanted to come back again
I was ready to walk down the block to another, trendier shop, but boy am I glad I stopped into Star Bagel! The owner was SO nice and the bacon, egg, and cheese was the best I've had since living in NYC. And the prices are likely the best you'll find in the Bay Area.
Don't let the modest aesthetic turn you away. What a gem!
