watered down instant ramen - worst soup ever

The beef skewers had weird taste, the black sesame dumplings soup base was sour, overall low quality and low value. I wouldn’t recommend this place and won’t come back again.

I was waiting for a shot at Walgreens and decided to have lunch here on a whim - great decision on my part because I had the most amazing baked pork chop with black pepper sauce on rice. I love Hong Kong style food and this one hit the spot! It's worth stopping by.

Good fast eats. Popcorn chicken is great and so are the noodles. I also like the baked dishes. I love these old school Hong Kong style cafes.

I had seen Sugar & Water Cafe on multiple occasions when I was in the area, but I finally had the chance to try them. Parking is street parking. We were the only group here, but the food took awhile to make. They had Cantonese shows on as well, so my friends and I enjoyed that as we were waiting for the food, as we were eating, and in between conversations. My friends and I all ordered the Mixian Noodles/Create Your Own Noodles. For about $11, it is decent, but if you want other add-ons then it will be an extra $2+ depending what you want. I thought the noodles/toppings were decent, but the broth was way too salty.

Quiet during lunch time on a rainy Sunday - we loved pretty much everything we tried here and will definitely come back soon. Braised pork belly Mixian, Pork chop Mixian, rice roll with sauce (kiddo loves), popcorn chicken, all very good. Can't wait to try more items on the menu next time! Service was good and the place was organized and clean.

Got take out here twice. First time, I tried the pork belly mixian. Didn't think I had "mixian" before and don't know exactly what it refers to. However, I have had the (round) noodles that came with my order. I enjoyed the bowl of noodles. Second time here, I got their baked pork chop w/tomato sauce rice dish. I ordered in person, and this dish was ready in less than 10 minutes! Fastest baked dish I've ever seen. Sadly it was too quick because the temperature of the food was inconsistent with some areas being lukewarm. Taste wise, it was ok. Pork chops were 2 thin pieces that appeared to have been pan fried before topping with tomato sauce, cheese, and baked or broiled(?). 3.5 stars rounded up.

Braised Pork Belly Mixian Noodle is so good and worth $13.25. Tender, juicy, delicious all in one bite sized pork belly. Bruh I messed up the rule of eating noodles while eating the meat. It was so good that I just kept going and now I'm left with all noodles :( Food: 5/5 Service (what I usually rate for): 5/5 I highly recommend this hole in the wall with my utmost respectful regard!

The foods and drinks in their store is very good, and the price is low. If you like Mixian noodles or Baked rice/spaghetti, you must try this.

Yummy mixian noodles. The build your own house spicy mixian with fish and pickled cabbage fish mixian is my go to. Satisfies my hotpot cravings (sub) at a reasonable price. The crispy wings and lamb skewers are flavorful. Eggettes that is currently available on weekends is crispy on the outside and light on the inside. Hk milk tea (lightly sweetened) is smooth and strong which is comparable to a "bakery" in the sunset. Will need to try the desserts next, but is great to have my favs in one place. Hope they will open for dinner soon as current hours is only through 3pm.

Got to write this as this is one of our go-to places. These are the best egg puffs ever. The egg puffs are nearly always perfect with yummy interior and exterior perfect crust. Other places they package it wrong, or something is up with their dough, the consistency is not quite right or they are outright soggy. But this place...these are the egg puffs I use to bribe my son to do stuff. He will do anything for these egg puffs. I also get the tofu pudding and laksa mixian. These are decent (like 8 out of 10, with 10 being actually getting them in China and Singapore) and since these are not very common, to be able to have all 3 in one place is absolutely awesome.

My cousin and I here for lunch and we ordered mi xian noodle soups because the weather was rather chilly; the portions were a decent size. I had the chicken with ginseng soup, which was decent-tasting, while my cousin had a spicy soup. We were working on our soup noodles fine 'til towards the end, my cousin finds two same tiny, black, 6-legged insects floating in her soup. My cousin kindly notified the waitress about the insects, in her soup, and she comps my cousin's meal. Much later in the day, I phone-ordered mango pomelo dessert from this place, choosing to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt that the insects, in the mi xian soup, was an isolated incident. The dessert, overall, was so-so: it looked too soupy and the flavor tasted artificial. Probably would not do mango-pomelo dessert from here. If you're reading this and are 50/50 about coming here because of the insect incident, up to you whether you'd give them try.

Ok I haven't written a review comment in nearly a decade but I do have a few things to share about this little shop. So, hear me out... For all you Hong Kongers out there, their "sugar water" (or desserts for my fellow American friends) are as real as they get. Their hot HK milk tea is perfectly smooth! It's like a trip down memory lane. Their tofu flower is pretty good and also smooth. I've also tried their sesame paste which needs more ginger and thickener to my palate. (Everyone is different - I get it!) I still order these three items on a regular because it temporarily transports me to Hong Kong. I'm still trying out other items on their menu, such as their mouth watering baked pork chop with rice and ketchup sauce. Their meat selections are insanely huge. Bigger than a child's head! I really wished they had ox tongue or more protein selections, but hey, this is a good start to a brand spanking new business. I'm so glad I stumbled upon them a few months ago. I wish they would pay me to advertise for them, because these items will offer you the authentic experience. Enjoy!
