Food was good. The Omakase prices were good, but the add-ons were very expensive. I was the only diner between 630 and 8 PM which felt off. They had terrible music that was way too loud and kept me from having a relaxing evening. But the waiter was very attentive and kind and the food quality was good
Delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend this place!

Ordered the tasting menu Haku (薄). The standout dishes for me were the scallop in sunomono and the yellowtail tataki. The welcome cold soup was also very impressive. However, I found the dessert (yuzu panna cotta) slightly too sour.

We did the Shio tasting menu and it was wonderful. High quality fish and at a very fair price for everything you receive. Service was wonderful, very attentive and informative. Will return!
Best Sushi anywhere!! Nothing comes close.

Visited Sushi Shio on Saturday evening with a 7pm reservation. The restaurant was notably empty with only another party dining, which was concerning.
Despite the empty restaurant, we were seated at a corner table by the main entrance rather than being offered choice of seating (sushi bar vs. table) as is typical at authentic Japanese establishments. The awkward positioning felt unnecessary when the entire dining room was available.
Ordered the Omakase ($95 per person) expecting quality Japanese cuisine. The 10-course meal plus dessert was disappointing - most dishes featured heavy yuzu-based sauces that didn't taste authentic. Fish quality appeared subpar and lacked freshness.
Specific issues:
Zensai course felt disjointed (mizuna, tartelette, nanbanzuke didn't complement each other). Sweet and sour chicken that is part of Zensai course was underwhelming.
The Tataki dish (seared yellowtail) with pickled onion and truffle ponzu dressing was disappointing. The name mentioned 'truffle', but we could not smell the truffle at all. The yellowtail was not only seared but completely overcooked and buried in the ponzu dressing.
Miso soup seemed like unnecessary filler dishes to be included in the Omakase.
Sake flights were overpriced ($65 and $42)
The automatic 20% gratuity brought the total to a significant amount for the quality received. While the restaurant attempts to position itself as upscale, observing DoorDash orders being prepared alongside dine-in service contradicted this image.
The pricing suggests fine dining, but the food quality and execution don't justify the cost. We spent the total amount of very close to $400 but did not feel satisfied with the food quality and service.
Would not recommend or return.

Sushi Shio is one of the most under-appreciated, high quality sushi spots in SF. Wild to me that more folks don't dine here in person (lots of to-go orders were being fulfilled while I was there). The fish was great quality and very fresh but the preparation was even better. I've enjoyed quite a bit of omakase these past 10 years and it's not often that I end up learning about new preparations which was very exciting! Anyone who says that the other local omakase places have better sushi is not correct - maybe a course here and there but overall I doubt it. And especially at $95 for the full omakase tasting -- very hard to beat. One of the most affordable, high quality sushi dinners I have had in a while. And the staff were lovely! Hope that locals support this gem more!!
I’ve been ordering DoorDash from here for 6 months and I’ve very satisfied with the quality of the food. My last order was so good that I was brought to write this review.
My standard is the 8-piece sushi tasting and miso soup (absolutely delish).
I will continue ordering from here as they are quick, reliable, and delicious. You can always search for better or “the best”, but to be quite honest, this food is more than good enough.

Our first omakase experience and it was amazing!!! Highly reccomend adding the A supplement but it would've still been plenty filling without it. The quality of the fish was incredibly fresh tasting and the service was excellent!

Great food and tasting experience! Highly recommend! Good wine and sake selection as well!
Best sushi ever. The rice tasted perfect, no soy sauce or wasabi needed. Will come back again when I have the chance.
We ordered the 11-course tasting menu. The food was innovative and tasty. The service was excellent as well. We will come back here the next time we are in San Francisco.
3rd time back, very very happy Customers! Excellent service, incredible quality fish and seafood. Sake Flights were amazing- Uni from Hokkaido and Santa Barbara Toast with gold flake is the best. My friend loves Salmon and their sake belly and nigiri killed it. Thanks again for taking such great care of us. We'll see you soon! Truly a sushi Gem in the city!
As locals in the Mission, we've dined at the three higher end sushi restaurants in the neighborhood. By far in our opinion, Sushi Shio ranks as number 1. Our preference is to order ala carte and not the set menu. This way we can select our favorite nigiri and / or sashimi. For the full experience, order the small side of “fresh wasabi” to enhance your sushi palette. The atmosphere is quiet and the staff in absolutely amazing. We highly recommend Sushi Shio!
