Went here for a quick bite mid-afternoon. The tacos were ok, but it feels like this is a perfect drunk late night spot. It definitely isn't top notch, but not the worst. Reasonable prices!

I really wanted to like this place — I’d heard so much about El Tucan’s Tijuana-style tacos, but my experience just didn’t live up to the hype. I ordered a few of their most talked-about items — the quesabirria, an adobada taco, and a shrimp taco. Everything looked good, but the flavors were kind of flat. The meat didn’t have the depth or char I was expecting, and the tortillas were on the greasy side without much chew or structure. Nothing tasted bad, but nothing wowed me either. The salsa bar was a nice touch, but even that felt limited compared to other taquerias in the city. And while the staff was polite, the service was slow — waited about 20 minutes even though the place wasn’t packed. Prices also felt steep for what you get. I don’t mind paying for quality, but this just didn’t feel like a good value. I left feeling full but underwhelmed.

I have eaten here 20+ times. It is easily the best Mexican spot in the Castro and one of the better restaurants of any kind in the neighborhood. I personally like the adobada California burrito and the shrimp red taco.
I really can’t say enough good things about this place. It hits.

Giving 5 stars cause low key one of the best burritos in SF rn. I’m partial to the adobada. If you order in they’ll bring the food to your table and have nice little parklet outside.
Been 5+ times and consistency is good
I have to try more on the menu but everyone I’ve eavesdropped on has positive reactions to their orders. Tortas, Red Birria Burrito, Agua Frescas all stand out.
My only note—When they get busy things move a bit slower.
This is the closest thing to actual TJ tacos I’ve found in the area. Ordered the keto and regular asada tacos, the meat was perfectly seasoned and wasn’t burnt to a crisp like other spots. The agua fresca de piña was the star of the show, absolutely amazing and fresh, not too sweet. The price is steep, I payed a total of $20 for three tacos and an agua (not including tip), but that’s totally reasonable for the area. I can’t imagine how bad rent must be right on Market St, and honestly $20 for a whole meal including drink is not high comparatively. And they do stuff the tacos with meat, so you’re getting your money’s worth! Their outdoor seating area is clean and inviting, and great to bring a pup and enjoy the sunshine!

My husband and I have eaten tacos and burritos two nights in a row from Tacos El Tucan because it’s seriously that good. The homemade tortillas elevate the food to be some of, if not the best, Tacos & Burritos I’ve had since I moved here. The salsas and chips are also great too!
