We splint a super yummy Caesar salad with fabulous croutons. My husband had scallops and I had swordfish with Szechuan peanut sauce...both awesome. Finished with the best carrot cake I've ever had in my life with a light cream cheese frosting. We were smashed in a bit at a bar table facing the street, but it was fun for people watching. Fun to see all the pictures throughout the restaurant
HSG is a classic. Reliable, warm (without being too chummy), enough menu variety for a group (with differing dietary desires and needs), high level of execution, and while not a "bargain," not overpriced for the quality of the food. Note that menus (and wine lists) posted online are years (even a decade) out of date (evidently no one updates these) e.g. the longtime offering of steak is no longer. (The menu seems to have been streamlined during the pandemic.) Overall...
I was just a tad disappointed as the crab was cold and accompanied with mayonaise instead of drawn butter and there was no french bread. BUT, the service was wonderful!!! It made the meal enjoyable and relaxing!
