I’ve been coming to this restaurant for awhile, but unfortunately, the quality has noticeably declined over the past year. The biggest disappointment? They’ve stopped serving their flatbread pizzas, which were hands down the best thing on the menu by a large margin. Without them, the menu feels lackluster and uninspired.
On the positive side, the hotel itself is lovely, and the ambiance of the restaurant is still pretty good—it’s a nice place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. However, the dining experience just isn’t what it used to be. I hope they can turn things around, but for now, I’m not sure I’ll be rushing back.

HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT – AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS
My husband and I had a last-minute Valentine’s Day reservation at Terrene, and it completely ruined our night. I don’t normally write reviews, but I am genuinely appalled by how terribly we were treated by the manager. I will make sure to warn everyone I know to avoid this restaurant.
The Good:
- The cocktails and steak were solid.
- Our waitress, Kayla, was great and the only saving grace of the night.
The Absolutely Horrible:
- We were originally seated right in front of the entrance and politely asked if we could move to a different table. Instead of accommodating us like any decent restaurant would, the manager gave us an attitude, glared at us, and in the most condescending tone asked “Ok where do you wanna sit” We were taken aback but pointed toward a more interior table, expecting him to assist us. Instead, he snapped “ok whatever go ahead.” No help, no professionalism—we literally had to carry our own drinks and water to another table.
- At this point, we were already shocked by the hostility, but we tried to move on and enjoy our meal. Then the food came. The duck breast was absolutely inedible, completely drenched in salt. I had no choice but to send it back.
The Verdict:
With terrible management, a hostile atmosphere, and inconsistent food quality, I can confidently say we will NEVER return. I would strongly advise others to avoid this restaurant unless you enjoy being treated like an inconvenience.

Beautiful place for a date, especially if you don't want to eat much!
Portions are small and pricey for what you get, but that's what you get in SF in the city.
The food was delicious, don't get me wrong but small. 25 dollars for 2 chicken skewers with no side, just 2 small peppers. Tuna tartare was amazing!!
Atmosphere was beautiful!
Great for a first course!

Today afternoon, we visited an upscale Mediterranean restaurant. The food was js ok, but I was surprised to find there was no rice on the menu, and the pita bread was served in chip-sized pieces with no variety of options. As for the chicken and shrimp skewers, they were a bit bland in my opinion. However, the atmosphere was great, with a nice vibe and plenty of space for kids, especially toddlers, to move around.

Nice location with fair food; the only problem is they add 20% tip under label of “large party” for more than 5 people to your check while they have tip line separately! Basically tricking people to double tip!
This place could use a lot of help in making it a desirable place for dinner, especially considering that it’s situated in a 5 star hotel. We had dinner here this evening and it was very underwhelming and disappointing.
Food - the squash salad was good for the most part. The NY strip steak was not a NY strip at all. The size and cut was way smaller and it was mostly gray when we ordered med rare. Dessert was horrible, cold and almost too hard to get a bite using a fork.
Service - started out good with our waitress who offered suggestions on drinks. However it took a turn for the worst after our first course and continued to get worse though out the meal. We had to ask for water multiple times. Our starter plates were not cleared before the mains were served even though we were done with them. Our server never checked on us after the mains were served. We ordered a bottle of wine and the server opened the bottle and set it on the table noting she was letting it breathe for a bit. She never came back to pour the wine for us so we poured it ourselves.
Price - the food is reasonably priced for SF, however the steaks were $56 which is fine if they were actually NY strips and cooked correctly. Our bill also had an additional line item called “holiday gratuity” which was 20%; all good however when we asked the waitress if this was gratuity included she said she wasn’t sure what that was and it was probably to cover the rest of the staff. She didn’t offer to verify what this line item was and instead walked away in a hurry.
All of this was during a slow time when there were only 2-3 other tables sat so I really don’t understand why the service was so poor.
Again, overall very disappointing. I hope the management team seeks help to get the staff trained properly because this place has a lot of opportunity and it would be a shame to not optimize it especially in such a great location. For now I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. There are lots of great restaurants nearby that are way better in all categories (food, service, etc).

Dined on the patio which provided a nice view of the city.
The food wasn’t bad either. I had the Ahi Tuna Salad. The serving was generous and actually good for two people.

Terrible service. 25% of the table did not get their food after 1.5 hours. Food was mediocre at best. Horrific service.

Very good food , location and outdoor vibe. Staff was friendly but when we came in the bartender wasn’t very clear on what the setup was. So we had to ask. Then we ordered drinks and waited like 12 minutes. I finally walked back inside and the drinks were just sitting in the bar with the receipt. No explanation on that. Drinks expensive

Relaxed, earthy restaurant on the first floor of 1 Hotel in San Francisco. It’s a peaceful spot, especially during brunch and lunch, making it a great place to hang out and chat.

Terrene at 1 Hotel San Francisco exceeded all of our expectations! We had breakfast here both mornings during our stay, and every bite was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a modern yet organic vibe that complements the 1 Hotel experience perfectly. The menu offered a great variety of fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and each dish was thoughtfully prepared. The breakfast sandwich and coffee were a standout. The service was also top-notch, with friendly staff who made us feel right at home. Terrene truly made our mornings special, and we can’t wait to come back!
