I’ve lived in this neighborhood for two years and go to Thai Cottage at least once a week. I’m finally getting around to writing a review because this is, hands down, the most underrated restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food is consistently fantastic—I don’t have just one go-to dish because everything I try is a hit.

It’s a family-owned spot, and the owner, Sabrina, has become a friend over time. She cares so deeply about the food and the craft. Just last night she explained to me how they make their fish cakes, carefully pounding the fish by hand—there’s so much love and skill behind every dish.

Thai Cottage is cozy, understated, and truly a neighborhood gem, but the food is good enough that you’d be thrilled to find it at a high-end restaurant downtown (and pay double). Instead, we’re lucky to enjoy that same quality right here in the outer sunset, no reservations needed.

The lady working here was so kind, helpful and gave phenomenal service. She made sure I was enjoying the food and helped me open my coke can because she noticed that I wasn't able to do so myself.

Vegetarian options: The pumpkin curry was great! A little spicy so wouldn’t work for someone wanting mild but still probably not quite “medium” spice. I’d get this again, and my partner tried the “cottage duck”. He enjoyed it, just wished the portion was bigger. I’d agree that portion wasn’t that large but prices were pretty fair! Would definitely go back!

Very long wait just to get drinks. One woman seems to be doing all front of house. Only a couple things could be made vegan so ask. Good food.

We got the Pad Thai Shrimp and Pineapple Curry Duck and they were both amazing!
The Pad Thai was one of the best I have eaten in San Francisco. The Pineapple Curry Duck was very creamy and a bit spicier than expected, so be sure to ask for a milder version if you're sensitive to heat.
The service was excellent as well.
