My glass of prosecco was not cold. I sent it back. I ordered the skirt steak and it was very cold. Cooked fine but it seems that it had been sitting there for a while. My partner ordered the burger and the fries and was happy with his food.
Very elevated pub food and well-executed. Ate here before a show at the Golden Gate with plenty of time to enjoy the meal and company. Drinks were excellent.
We had a great time. Really enjoyed the food, service and overall experience. I had always heard about Scotch Eggs - so we tried them!
We had a lovely pre-theater dinner and found the menu varied and inspired. We had the Caesar salad, Scotch egg, Ahi Carpaccio, Seared Scallops and twice baked potato -- all delicious. For dessert, we had the Bruleed "Alaska" and Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding. The service was friendly and attentive.
We had a great meal at Cavalier last night. We started with three very different cocktails and loved them all. I was so happy to see the left side of the menu was mostly vegetables. We ate several. Our entrees were delicious. My meat was undercooked (by any standard) and was promptly replaced with a perfect version. I was a bit taken aback when the waiter said something about letting it rest. (Not my job!) The wine list is small but varied with some unique offerings. The manager provided me with excellent guidance. Service was warm and professional, and we felt cozy in the muralled side room. I'll definitely go back. (I don't give many five star reviews, and it has to be for exceptional food, not just food well executed.)
Overall very good experience, good and helpful service, dropped one star because couple dishes were overstated.
Our family had an amazing time dining at Cavalier Restaurant, San Francisco. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant we knew we were in for a memorable culinary adventure. The service was nothing short of exceptional—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making us feel truly valued throughout our meal. The menu showcased a remarkable array of dishes that expertly balanced bold flavors and refined techniques. We started with the Smoked Deviled Eggs, topped with crispy bacon, pickled jalapeño, and salsa—an irresistible combination of smoky, spicy, and savory that tantalized our taste buds. The Brussels Sprouts Chips offered a delightful crunch, enhanced by vadouvan spice and zesty lemon zest, providing a perfect snack with a sophisticated twist. The Steak Tartare was a highlight—finely prepared with parmesan, horseradish, chimichurri, and crispy capers, delivering a harmonious blend of textures and flavors that elevated raw beef to an art form. For our greens, we enjoyed the Grilled Asparagus & Burrata, accompanied by fava beans, pea tendrils, Meyer lemon, and mint—a fresh, creamy, and vibrant dish that showcased seasonal ingredients at their best. The star of the main courses was the Marinated Skirt Steak, served with Fresno chili chimichurri and sea salt. The steak was perfectly marinated, tender, and bursting with smoky, spicy notes that complemented the bright, herbaceous chimichurri beautifully. Overall, Cavalier Restaurant excels in both culinary creativity and impeccable service. The quality of ingredients, thoughtful presentation, and inviting atmosphere make it a standout dining destination.
Overall good, I love the fox hunting horse theme. Our initial server seemed to get quite frustrated with us, but the subsequent staff was all super pleasant and great. Maybe she was having a bad day, but it felt like we were being ignored and then a burden if we tried to get her attention. Food was good and ambience decent, but I wish people dressed up a bit more (less on the restaurant and more on the city on this point haha).
Such a lovely experience and the food was top notch! Highly recommend you add it to your list as a must try
Excellent evening. A bit on the expensive side, but worth it. Our waitress was exceptional.

I have dined at The Cavalier dozens of times, and they always hit the mark in every category. The ambience is classic and chic, the staff are attentive and timely, and the food is always excellent. They have a fully stocked bar, and if you don't like a drink for any reason, they will not hesitate to swiftly swap it until you do. This is one of the handful of restaurants in San Francisco that performs in every aspect without fail every time. It is located within Hotel Zetta, that is also a wonderful choice for an overnight stay.
Excellent: Location Service was outstanding I was a little dissatisfied with costs and small portions. Food was delicious
Wonderful space. Fools was delicious and the service quick and attentive. I highly recommend.
A lovely meal in tucked away spot close to Union Square. We cannot rave enough about the Red Plum and Grape Salad - salty, fruity, porky in just the right way, and bright with frisee and arugula. Mains were beautifully done renditions of what I consider California classics. Sides were equally lovely. Cocktails were delicious and dessert made my mom want to move to the neighborhood.
We had an unbelievable time at The Cavalier! The entire experience and hospitality from the staff was top class. Can't say enough good things about the food and the people.
