What a great place, and why I have discovered it only now. John is the most gracious host who made us feel extremely welcome and comfortable. The whole place is very cozy. It's like a private dining. We were able to enjoy our food and talk as if we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was also great. I don't really like butternut squash soup, but I loved John's. Halibut was very delicious that melted in your mouth. The other dishes were also great and wonderfully presented. Even the dinner rolls which they bake in the house, were also delicious. I actually begged John, and he gave me some to take home. I think the local patrons should chip in and buy this place a great espresso machine :). That was the only thing missing for me in this dinner.

Went to The Richmond for a birthday dinner and couldn’t have loved it more. It’s a set menu with an optional wine add-on so you don’t have to think about anything. Sit back, relax and enjoy good food and great company. It’s truly a hidden gem in the Inner Richmond. Already thinking about an excuse to go back.

You don't find restaurants like this! John was an absolute please and his food was great. He handles both the cooking and serving of the food. Love the private experience his curtains provide.

Absolute perfection!

My husband and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary at The Richmond, and had a perfect night! We did the tasting with the wine pairings, and couldn't have asked for a better night. The food was tasty and the recommended wine pairings went along perfectly with the food.

We went here for a belated anniversary dinner tonight and absolutely loved it. The food was DELICIOUS, the atmosphere was great (if you like classic rock and/or 90s music, you'll also love the music selection), and the couple that run the show/served us were attentive and hooked us up with extra courses and drinks. We had a private little booth, and it was wonderful. We both felt at home and I'm looking forward to going back (probably for my wife's birthday, nobody tell her🤫). If you haven't checked this place out yet, DO IT!

I’ve been coming here regularly for the past few months, and every visit is just as good as the last. The service is consistent, and the food tastes fresh each time. My favorite is the grilled chicken salad, light but filling. I keep recommending this place to colleagues.

What a wonderful experience from start to finish. The chef is humble and genuinely grateful for each guest, and both he and his wife were an absolute delight.

And the food—wow! Every dish felt like an experience on its own. The courses were perfectly portioned, beautifully prepared, and absolutely delicious. While it’s a five-course meal, he surprised us with a couple of extra treats 😃, which made the evening even more special.

We lingered over wine, savored each bite, and never felt rushed. This is truly a hidden gem in San Francisco, and we’ll not only be back but will be recommending it to everyone we know.

The concept here is that the chef, John, and one waitress prepare all the food and service the tables in an intimate small space. The tasting menu is the only option! Every table has its own pocket, surrounded by curtains, to create a cozy private pocket. I loved the food, especially the ribeye. Two bonus courses. They easily accommodated a shellfish allergy, changing up one of the courses. Everything tasted fresh and was played beautifully. We also had good wine that was reasonably priced. Fantastic dining experience overall.

I haven’t tried their food, but I’m a dedicated customer. Here’s why.
I showed up to meet some friends. No reservations. I beat my friends there. The guy at the front was a little perplexed. I told him I didn’t have a reservation but that didn’t seem to be the issue.
I told him I was waiting for a few people; instead of placating me, or telling me he didn’t have room or time, he poured me a glass of wine and suggested I relax with a nice Pinot while I waited. His treat.

My friends finally arrived and the penny kinda dropped. Turns out, he wasn’t expecting drop in guests and thus, didn’t make enough prep…..

The guy (John) apparently makes his menu, special, every night depending on the number of reservations!

John continued to treat us like family after my friends arrived. Continued to pour us wine after he seated us just to “relax a bit and enjoy yourself”. He came by every now and then to top off our wine glasses (of which he had no intention of charging us).

Long story short, I’ll be making reservations ASAP. If not for the hand prepared food, for the lovely, genuine and kind purveyor of The Richmond.

If you want a slice of genuine human nature and good food, this is your spot……

Had a five course tasting menu with a wine pairing. The wines were thoughtfully matched perfectly to each course.
