I’m really disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. First off, our server didn’t even bring us water until we had to ask for it that should be a basic part of service. Then, my food took an unusually long time to come out. On top of that, when I ordered a mimosa, I was told they were out of champagne , how do you run out of something that’s clearly listed on the menu?
Overall, the service was slow, unorganized, and definitely not worth the wait. I expected better hospitality and preparation from this

They serve a great homestead breakfast. You could tell by the amount of locals eating it was a good place to get good food.

Toast was warm at best.... I saw him washing dishes in a handwashing sink (healthcode violation in SD) service was fast but food was nothing special. The atmosphere is the main draw giving the 1950s feel.
There's probably better.

High prices and smaller portions. The service was horrible, had to ask for sugar for coffee, salt and pepper while the wait staff was just standing there idle.Live in the neighborhood and always wondered why they never had business, now I know.

Very cute place to have breakfast it was walking distance from our hotel Holiday Inn. The food was good, simple american food, the coffee was delicious.

The price of lux bagel and toast, and two cups of cappuccino do not match the quality, quantity, or the service we did receive. No water was provided as we asked for it. We did wait for those simple orders for more than 15 minutes as it was not busy. This is bad service and little insult to SF residents and people who visit this beautiful city.

Just like any old fashioned diner. I had the Godfather Omelet and it was very good. Companied by hash brown and wheat toasts, all were good.

We came on a Sunday afternoon and there were only 4 staff members working the brunch rush. We were never served our meal. The couple that arrived after us was seated, ate, and paid their bill before we finally asked the waitress where our food was and she replied that they misplaced our ticket and hadn't started working on it. We sat patiently waiting for our meal for 45 minutes, no staff member ever stopped to check on us. Worst service I ever experienced. Very disappointed because the food looked pretty good.

Waited for 45 minutes before the staff realized they had misplaced or otherwise forgotten our order. We ended up walking out.

The toast here is good. If you want french toast, they have lots of options and do it well. Anything toast related here is good. It falls very flat on the other items … so just really stick to what they do best. It is called Toast Eatery after all.
The vibe and service here is great. Prices are good too. Feels like an old diner, no frills, quick service. No complaints aside from the hash browns and eggs being nearly inedible, the toast was yummy. :)

Toast was recommend on a SF review site for breakfast in the Nob Hill area. I was craving a good American breakfast. When we arrived it was almost empty and that should have been the signal to leave. The coffee was cold and tasted of nothing. It was from a machine. It was replaced and whilst warmer still tasted of water. I ordered egg, bacon, hash brown and a pancake. The bacon was old. The egg was raw and I sent it back. I feel physically sick and paid $50 for the privilege.
This place used to be a Polk St mainstay … now it’s a fledgling generic breakfast place. We arrived a bit before 9 on a Saturday, and there were lots of open tables but every one was dirty. There was one server, 3 guys in the kitchen, and LOTS of people either waiting to have their orders taken or to be seated. The server was definitely in the weeds so I’ll give her a pass on that (though 30 min for coffee? Yikes). A few people came in after us and left because they weren’t being helped.
What’s more bothersome than shoddy staffing and bad teamwork, the quality of Toast seems to have nosedived. The orange juice used to be fresh squeezed, now it’s from a jug. Everything is sort of flung together. The second server (who came in around 915) walked in from the street and started helping (yay!) but didn’t wash her hands. The server put a stack of shoddy plastic cups down with a jug of water - and I couldn’t help but wonder where the bottoms of those cups had been that were now inside the other cups. The food was bland and boring. Toast used to have a special je ne sais quoi but now … just meh. Passable but not great.
