The ambiance was fabulous. I would have preferred more drink and food options; however the available options were food. I think it would have been helpful with planning to be informed at the time of making the reservation that the restaurant will charge $15.00 per person if the table was still there at 7:00PM.

Go for the environment, drinks and the live music. Food was good, but it made it better having a table near the water and the musicians

We had a great time but it really is all about the experience. Go with the right attitude.

So I love the Tonga Room. I have been coming here since the 80s when I was a first old enough to drink. You don't really come here for the food you come here for the ambience and exotic drinks. That being said, for what I paid for the surf and turf, serving frozen shrimp that were still a bit rubbery was just not cool. My drink was also weak also not cool. The band was great. Ambience was great. The server was fantastic by the overall value needs improvement.

This place is SUPER expensive. The drinks are good and the food was delish. The band could be a little livelier and updated, but entertaining nonetheless. I was recommended to come here and it did not disappoint. Just very expensive and the Canadian dollar does not help lol

Kitschy and Classic. If you like visiting tiki bars, do yourself a favor and stop by the famous Tonga Room at the Fairmont Hotel. You won't regret it.

Had an 8pm reservation for my anniversary, was unfortunately seated at a table that felt like it wasn't cleaned prior. No napkins or silverware. Took a while for our server to get to us. Had to ask for napkins and silverware. While waiting watched 2 lady's get seated closer to the music, as well as waited quickly with waters, drinks, and food before we were able to order. Once we got service it got better but wow for 180 kinda expected much better overall experience.

I made reservations as soon as the time frame opened so this wasn't a last minute thing. I mentioned it was for my wife's 71st birthday which they acknowledged when we arrived. They proceeded to take us to what had to have been the worst 2 person table they had. We walked by one table which would have gave both my wife and I a good view of the entertainment. Incidentally this table remained open for the entire 2 hours that we were there. The table that we got gave my wife a so so view of the backs of the entertainers. My view was the back wall and hallway to the kitchen. To make things worse I am 100% deaf in my left ear which was where the entertainment was. My good ear was right next to the loudest group of women I have probably ever heard in a restaurant. They were there just drinking and obviously could care less about the entertainment. When we checked in we were asked if we were staying at the hotel which I answered no. I'm guessing that since we weren't staying there the better tables were held open for those that were. I knew that the Tonga Room was over priced and the food was mediocre at best. We were there for the entertainment and tiki drinks. Due to where they sat us the entertainment was ruined. Was very disappointed with the tiki drinks. Most of them had multiple alcohols which they over complicated the drinks and they were too strong. The drinks weren't very refreshing. If you were there just to get drunk then their tiki drinks would do the job. I don't think that we will ever return to the Tonga Room after this experience, especially after letting them know that this was a special occasion - my wife's 71st birthday. Incidentally we stayed at the Ritz-Carlton and they did know how to make our stay very memorable. Probably should have just had dinner there.

The ambience, decorations are off the charts, as expected. The food was meh. The server was good - the receptionists had an attitude (stuck up). I don't know if their attitude was related to us, being Asians because it felt that way. They definitely need to work on their attitude, regardless. I'm giving a 4-star only because I wanted it to be fair for the server who was great and the amazing decorations. Otherwise, I would have easily give it a 3-star for those attitude people.

we had a good time. ambience is noisy but expected when you have dinner with live music. food was good. drinks delicious. somehow though overall didn't meet the hype. maybe my expectations were too high.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary. It's hard to believe we had never been here after living in SF for 25 years! We had a ton of fun. The house band was fantastic and really working the crowd. The crowd was full of birthday parties and bridal parties that were there to have fun and made our night that much more fun! Unfortunately, the food was mid at best. I would actually go as far to say it wasn't very good. They really need to work on that! Our server was fantastic and super accommodating. The tropical drinks were very expensive, but tasty and STRONG! I had one $25 pina colada that almost pushed me over the edge to full-on drunkenness. Definitely worth a trip for a fun, kitschy night out. My advice - eat at a better restaurant before you go and opt for the drinks and fun time.

I've wanted to go here for years. I'm so glad we were able to finally make it. There were 6 of us and we had such a great time! The service was impeccable. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the garlic fried rice. The drinks we yummy and potent. The music was great, too!

Great music, show, drinks and vibe! We had the signature tiki cocktails made to perfection, and tried some spirits, of which they had a good selection. The show was amazing, great music and literal rain!

I have visited the Tonga Room several times. Every dining experience has been GREAT and very enjoyable. My recent experience reminds me why I so enjoy this place. The food is great and the atmosphere/ambiance is superb. Be prepared for terrific evening!
