Very disappointing experience. From the moment we arrived, there was no greeting, no smile, nothing welcoming. I asked to split the bill (for only 3 dishes) and was told it wasn’t possible “because of the system.” After insisting, they finally agreed and it literally took them two clicks to do it - they complained about it and even talked about me among themselves in a language I couldn’t understand – very unprofessional and unpleasant.
As for the food, it was not great: the gyozas tasted watery, the chicken pieces in the katsu bento were way too big, the salad was warm, and the rice was completely bland.
Overall, neither the service nor the food quality makes me want to come back. I do not recommend this place.

The service is terrible, and there is no service at all. The place is very small, there are many people who need to queue up, and it is mandatory to give a tip, pretending not to understand, which is simply disgusting.

Came here with my fiancé and had an amazing meal. The kaarage was delicious and their ramen so yummy! Their staff is also very kind.

The waiter was not friendly at all. He is kind of rude. He did not say anything that isn’t appropriate but his attitude says it all. When I ordered one item that listed on the google map menu, he said they don’t serve it, but the way the said had something that make me uncomfortable. The place wasn’t crowded but he did not allow me to sit at the table while waiting for my food. I get it, I ordered to go but the way he talked just seem really unwelcoming. Haven’t tasted the food yet but definitely will not come back for this attitude.

Something has changed at Tonton.
The food was greasy with smaller portions than what we are used to. The service was not great either. The waitresses appeared irritated and often yelling out as well. Not going back.

Oooooh yeah! One of the best Tonkotsu Ramen I ever had. The Chashu was juicy and on point, the ingredients were perfectly balanced in amount and taste, the broth was rich and perfectly seasoned and the over all amount of food was just perfect. Can't remember when I finished the entire bowl last. If you enjoy having an honest, tasty bowl of Ramen, search no further and try Tonton.
Thank you!

SF Tonton is one of those cozy hidden gems in San Francisco that keeps you coming back again and again. It's a small, intimate space — seating about 15 to 20 people max — so expect a bit of a wait, especially during dinner hours. There's always a queue, and on colder nights, that 5 to 20-minute wait outside can feel longer, but it’s absolutely worth it.
The food is consistently delicious and super affordable for SF standards. We’re repeat customers, and our go-to favorites are the House Special Ramen and the Pork Katsu Curry Don — both hearty, flavorful, and deeply comforting. The ramen broth is rich and balanced, while the katsu curry is crispy, generously portioned, and hits all the right notes.
Service is fast and polite once you’re seated, and even though the space is tight, it has a warm, no-frills charm that adds to the experience. It feels like a local favorite that stays true to good food without trying too hard to be trendy.
If you're craving satisfying Japanese comfort food on a budget and don’t mind a short wait — SF Tonton is 100% worth it. Just bundle up if you’re coming for dinner!

Our party of 9 briefly visited this restaurant on 7/2 in the evening. Upon walking in we were not greeted , we proceeded with seating ourselves which took some readjusting since we couldn’t sit together. The server with blue eye contact lenses seem bothered by our large party and passed by us and told us to “sit”in a rude and demanding demeanor. He came by dropped of menus we immediately felt his rude demeanor and questioned ourselves if we should stay or go. My sister and brother in law got up to check the restaurant next door and see if they had seating for us available as soon as they got up he quickly rushed to the table and took their menus and didn’t ask if they’d be back. He was extremely rude and unwelcoming. I have never experienced such poor customer service. We got up and left. As we were standing outside the sidewalk deciding if we would go next door or elsewhere he was looking at us through the window. My brother in law asked to speak to him he cracked open the window , my brother in law asked why he was so rude and instantly he blamed us for not saying hi when we walked in? He then closed the window and told my brother in law he was “done”. I never write negative comments but this server deserves 0 stars. There is no need to be disrespectful and rude. We took our business to ithai — the best! Completely different experience.

I had dinner here a few weeks ago with my toddler son, and unfortunately, it was a very unpleasant experience. The staff were surprisingly rude and unkind toward us. When we sat down, I politely asked for a plastic cup for my son, but we weren’t given any utensils when the food arrived. After requesting some, the server responded sharply with, “What else do you need?” in a very unfriendly tone.
My son was experiencing jet lag and not feeling well, so he made some noise by tapping his plastic bowl on the table. One of the servers then demanded that we give the bowl back, speaking to us as if we were being a problem rather than showing any understanding or patience.
This level of hostility—especially toward a small child—was deeply disappointing.

It’s easy to walk past this Ramen spot, in fact I did, luckily I wasn’t in the mood for bento. Ramen is what I needed on a cool San Francisco evening. I ate as a solo diner, in for a bowl of House Ramen.
I’ve got to say, this Ramen rivals any great bowl in the city. The base hold the bowl together so well, it rich, fatty, slightly creamy and lots of umami. The shoyu egg was perfection 🙇🏻♂️ noodles were firm and delicious, toppings were fresh and a nice accent to the dish
I’ll be back soon 🤙
