Toy Soldier communication after booking up until my reservation and follow up after was amazing. The staff taking care of our party of 6 was so professional but warm and welcoming. We had a wonderful time and the food was fantastic.
Great experience. Personalized attention. Business dinner and would for sure go hear again. Thanks!!
Waiter preferred to be on his phone rather than attending to patrons. Never came to our table to see how we were. We had to go to him to get additional water, to ask about the order timing, and to ask for the bill. He seemed entirely disinterested in us. Brussels sprouts were good. Oysters were fair. Crab cakes were overdone and dry.
We had a large group of 15 and Altero was a pro and always attentive. I will book more reservations here for the future.
Second time visiting. Initially found Toy Soldier by fluke, second time by plan. Great food, wonderful service and tasty drinks. Went with a party of 14 and every dish was thoughtfully prepared and plated, more importantly tasted delicious. Second just a few of us at a bar hightop. Same great food and warm service. Definitely a hidden treasure away from the crowds
This is the first time I've been back since Covid. Service was excellent and we ordered the mussels as an appetizer and we each had a burger everything was delicious and I'm looking forward to going back soon.
We has a soft spot for restaurants on Belden Lane due to many great meals and memories we've had there. We hadn't been to BL in a while and decided to try Toy Soldier. The lane has fallen a bit on hard times since Covid, but is recovering some of its old energy. Toy Soldier is a good example of that. We felt a bit odd however walking into Toy Soldier this past Saturday. The place was empty, odd for a Saturday night, and it seemed like the tables had been removed. It turned out that we were the only reservation the restaurant had accepted for that evening. Our waiter explained to us that they had 3 very large parties book right after we had made our reservation and they cut off taking any additional bookings. They could have canceled our reservation but kindly chose not to. So, we had the place to ourselves until the first large party started to arrive about an hour later. We felt welcomed, so sat back and enjoyed ourselves. The food, while not Michelin level, was quite good and worth a repeat visit. We started with the burrata salad - the burrata was excellent, but the tomotoes could have been riper - they arein season. My wife had the salmon and I had the sea bass. Both dishes were well executed by the kitchen and very tasty. Their respective sides were also great. Service was attentive throughout our dinner and since we were the only ones there had the chance to get to know our waiter a bit. The party revelers were arriving as our molten chocolate cake desert arrived. Also excellent. Toy Soldier has an expensive and reasonably priced wine list. The service is welcoming and professional. We definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area.
TLDR: long wait and still managed to serve me a raw burger
Being in the financial district right across from one of the biggest work towers, you would expect food to come out much quicker. Well it turns out more than 30 minutes was still not enough to cook a burger. Yes I was told it would take longer than 15 minutes but we waited for over 30 minutes and I still somehow received a raw burger. I had to walk it back and return it, will see if they end up refunding my friend’s credit card.

I had the goat cheese salad with Salmon. I didn't have the words to describe it. The salmon was the best I've ever had. It literally melted in my mouth like butter. I wish I didn't add the lemon because it was great on its own. The dessert was great! They have a guest manager there named moose. You'll have to see for yourself. Arturo was amazing, he was very helpful, funny, and will make you feel at home. I dined inside and it was really nice and spacious. Overall, amazing experience and the price was very reasonable. I'm excited for my next visit.

Everybody loved the pork chops and lamb chops and salmon and of course, the cocktails and wine list!
Our meals at the Toy Soldier in San Francisco were delicious. I had the salmon with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagas. My husband had the sea bass with a unique light mushroom sauce. Both were cooked perfectly. The goat cheese salad had a wonderful light dressing and dried cranberries. It was so large we shared it. We will definitely be going back the next time we are in San Francisco.
Was at Toy Soldier during Bastille Day at Belden St. Sat at the bar and had some fun talking to people. The bartenders were super nice. Great atmosphere. Do recommend the white clams and garlic fries.
