The server who first started our table, Teresa, was wonderful—attentive and kind. Unfortunately, she disappeared, and the gentleman who later served us was extremely rude and dismissive. When I asked a simple question about a menu item, his response was, “It's written in the menu.” We had just received our appetizers when he came back to take our lunch order. I mentioned we needed a little more time, and his response was shocking: he told us we would “have to wait for a long period” and even pointed to another large table, saying he wouldn't be back soon if we didn't order immediately. I couldn't believe the level of attitude and poor service. I usually love this restaurant and often choose it for work lunches and meetings, but this was a pretty important meeting, and the overall experience ended up being very disappointing.
We had a delightful lunch at Dillon before going to a show at the Orpheum. The food was imaginative and delicious and the entire staff could not have been more welcoming!
The service we've had here the last three times we've had brunch here has gone downhill. This is mostly due to our server who seems preoccupied and responds in one word answers, that are neither helpful nor polite. You're paying about $50/person for meal/beverage and I really expect that the service be gracious and welcoming. The food seems to be lacking too over the last few times. This last time there was bacon as part of the Proper Breakfast menu item and it was just pure grease. We think that they deep fried it and could not eat it. It is convenient as we were seeing a matinee at the Orpheum and the space is beautiful and soothing, but our server and meal was not up to par. Unfortunately we won't be coming back.
We thought this was a great spot to go before a show at the Orpheum. Nice servers, good food.
Came for Sunday brunch but the menu choices were tiny. Food was very basic. Definitely not worth the price. Wonderful staff made us feel good though.

Delicious food - lovely waiter - attentive staff - hotel ambience superb. I highly recommend Villon in The Proper Hotel.
My husband's food was overcooked, greasy and burned. The food pictures from their website are pretty but reality is a different story. Very poor service and limited flexibility in terms of everything. We'll NOT repeat the experience again!
Excellent meal and ambiance, always a consistent experience eating here. We were really surprised to learn that Villon had stopped dinner service as this is my husbands favorite restaurant for dinner before the shows at Orpheum and Golden Gate theatres, for the delicious innovative dishes. We went for breakfast on a Saturday and as usual the service, food and ambiance were excellent. Would highly recommend, the price point is worth it. We were pleased to learn that the restaurant is working on reopening dinner service - we will be back for dinner when they do.
We did the Valentine's Day tasting menu. It came out about $550 for two people with the wine pairing. The staff were wonderful and the space is cute, but that's about where the positives end. The food was extremely basic, something you would almost expect to find in a diner. It was clearly pre-made several hours in advance, and some of the seafood had a little leathery crust on top, like they'd been sitting out or in the fridge for a while. Unacceptable for the price point. The bouillabaisse was basically just seafood sitting on a plate colored with a tiny bit of broth, but there wasn't enough to use a spoon. The starter salad was a lettuce heart cut in quarters with some mayo-based thick dressing. The wine pairing included 2 to 3 ounce pours, which, for the extra $65 charge, was woefully inadequate. We really wanted to like this place, but we are never coming back for dinner!
Valentine menu was a joke ! Food felt not fresh Charged 150 per person Wine tasting was not worth the money ($60) Definitely not recommended

A somewhat different breakfast entree - smoked polenta with pork, cilantro and seasonings. Delicious and unique. Almost better still - the best hot tea I've ever had in a restaurant. The tea itself was superior English breakfast blend but it was served truly HOT in a double-walled metal teapot with loose tea leaves infused in a basket, and the second large ceramic cup of tea was as hot and perfectly brewed as the first. As an inveterate tea-drinker, believe me when I say this was a completely singular presentation in my (usually somewhat disappointing) experience. THANK YOU.
Wonderful pre theater and birthday lunch with 5 friends. We love Villon! Great service, very good food, lovely calm environment. Worth the cost.
Exquisite- one of the best meals of my life. speechless about the mushroom appetizer. VILLON is absolute perfection- from stunning architectural scale of the lobby, to soothing dark tones of restaurant, and sparkly highlights of the dramatic bar. Service was impeccable - everyone. Food was exquisite. The Chef is brilliant… and has PERFECTED the art of delicate crisp to the (GF!) tempura mushroom appetizer, as well as the skin of the chicken and fish entrees. FLAVORS and TEXTURES were magnificent. The entire experience was subtle, yet extraordinary FEAST for the eyes and palate — an absolutely perfect meal before a show at the Orpheum in SF! Wow. Words don’t come close.

Great ambiance, service & experience overall. Steak tartare had an unusual twist with sesame and it was very delicious!
Had a wonderful quiet and relaxing lunch with friends here. Great cocktails and the service was excellent. Loved the artistic ambience and setting.
