It was not too loud. The California roll was delicious. (by Cedar)

we went in with no reservation and ordered a la carte, not omakase. 16 pcs chef sashimi was 5/5 absolutely standout, a must order. the salesforce roll and miso soup was nothing to write home about, no need to order. staff was very attentive. it's a no-frills spot but i think atmosphere could be improved.

Roger is the godfather of SF sushi. He has been serving since 2004. He knows all the best cuts and will show you how to eat sushi the appropriate way.

This is a SF local secret. Try to get a bar seat for omakase. He feeds you till your full. The atmosphere screams locals only. Leave your attitude outside and let Roger guide you through an amazing meal. There is rumor he might retire in a couple years.

This is one of my favorite places for šŸ£ sushi.

We had a great time at the sushi bar with Roger. It was our first time and a special occasion for us, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. It was the best toro we’ve had and Roger’s hand roll was fantastic. Hopefully will be back soon!

I really wanted to like this small, family run place. But there is one problem. The food just isn’t very good. Or, frankly, good at all. The fish could have come from any chain supermarket. Edible, probably just fine if you cooked it. But raw? No. And the way the cut and served it didn’t help. Sauces were blah. Rice was blah. Sorry

Make sure that you know what this costs before booking.
Had I been booking for a special occasion - this would have been an ā€˜experience’. However, I thought I was booking a reasonably priced sushi restaurant (based on the menu prices online) on a random Thursday night while visiting SF & got completely shocked by a $360 bill for two (not including an expected tip). The other couple that had randomly come in (having literally just gotten off a plane from Europe & looking for quick sushi) had the exact same shock.

If cost is not a factor & you want a special experience - I don’t believe you will be disappointed, but if you get encouraged to start trying things and aren’t given a menu be aware that you will get whatever produce needs to be used by the restaurant as an omasake experience and charged the very top market prices.

Sashimi was fresh and prices are great for the portions you get.

Randomly found this place with great reviews and popped in at 7pm on a Saturday wanting to leave the crazy crowds at Fisherman's warf. They were able to seat us right away without reservations and service was spectacular. The sushi was insanely good quality and well priced. The service wasn't super fast because they only have 1 chef who was also doing an omakase seating while we were there but we had our whole meal within 1.5 hrs which we thought was normal speed. Absolutely would come back and recommend!

This restaurant was really bad. We had read good reviews and can only assume new owners. It was nearly empty at 7:30 pm on a Thursday.

Sushi was mediocre and portly presented. Slapped together and scattered. The salad, instead of ginger dressing, had bottled ranch dressing.couldn't eat it.

The soft shell crab was so overly-salted it was inedible. The tofu was covered in a corn starch sauce.

We do not rate many restaurants bad.

The sushi was exceptional and Chef Roger was amazing. We had no menu so the price was steep when the bill came so be prepared to spend a lot but worth the experience.

What an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. I’ve lived around the neighborhood for 4 years, but only stepped in by coincidence today. I wanted to sit at the chef's counter just because I thought it'd be a cooler to watch. Little did I know I stumbled upon an accidental omakase experience. It was such a delight and honestly felt like an immersive theater experience where each of the other guests also played a character and we were all moderated by the incredibly entertaining and opinionated Chef Roger Chong. I would definitely go back, but make sure to leave enough space in your stomach because it was a lot of food.
