The quintessential cheap Taiwanese eatery is still functioning to a certain extent. Once one of the most popular hangouts from the 90s, Xiau Mei has been serving up overly salty Taiwanese dishes in the area for a very long time. Their affordable prices and classic flavors are a staple and support a particular culinary experience with incomparable flair. Expect a diner level of service. Quick stir-frys, greasy starches, and familiar baos of great value.
I went to Xiaomei this morning to buy a takeout with three dishes and one soup, and then went to the nearby Great China Supermarket to buy some vegetables. I took out Xiaomei and retrieved my eight yuan and seventy cents, wrapped in Xiaomei. In my receipt, the lady at the Greater China counter refused to accept one of the $5 bills, saying it was a counterfeit bill. If it were normal, forget it, it would be a trivial matter. But then I thought again, I have been swallowing my anger...
Very nice cafeteria style dinner popular with locals. Nice selection of tofu and vegetable dishes, I count 10 different ones today, and also fish, chicken, beef and pork. You can also order noodles, fried rice and other dishes. 6.50 will get you rice and soup with 3 entrees. Also has Taiwanese style bao Bing - shaved ice.
