Bill's Cafe- Newbury/King

I heard this place was great, so I came for lunch with family. I am guessing it is their breakfast that's great because their lunch was awful. Paid nearly $20 for a regular club sandwich and the bread was completely burnt (black ends). Sandwich was somehow dry despite being lathered in what tasted like old mayo, and the meat/cheese was not good. Nice staff - terrible food.

Very disappointing service at the bar. No greeting, no napkins, no water even after a long wait, and no receipt unless asked. The bartender seemed indifferent and disengaged. What’s worse is the checkout defaults to an 18% minimum tip despite the poor service. Tipping should reflect service quality, and this experience fell far short.

Cruz was amazingly considerate and hospitable with us on our first brunch family gathering of the year. He was attentive and funny, which we appreciated as we were celebrating the life of my late father. He even brought and refilled a water bowl for my dog. The service he provided was fast and efficient. The food was excellent and fresh! We definitely want to come back.
